Weegar had an insane year last year. His counting stats weren’t like 2021-22 but his analytics were crazy. I’m also a bit surprised Lindholm didn’t make that list. Those two are the ones that jump out as « favorites »
Pelech erasure. Arguably Pulock erasure as well.
Siegs
Heiskanen. Wish they would give him an actual good defensive partner to play with. Having to watch him babysit Suter and Miller all year was painful
Slavin. Brodin and Pelech are also a treat to watch.

While I am a full-blooded Matthias Samuelsson lover, Jaccob Slavin is the perfect modern shutdown d-man. I wish every dman we ever draft could turn out like him.
Pietrangelo isn’t even the best shutdown D-man on the Knights.
Brodin is such a gifted skater. It’s a treat to watch him just shut teams down.
I won’t say he’s my favorite but I’m excited to see what Graves can do with Pittsburgh

Mattias Samuelsson is going to be the best shut down defender in the league. Probably deserves a spot on this post.
Hoping Esa Lindell can reclaim some of his old stature as far as being a shutdown God goes. The Stars relying on him and Miro to drag along 5 not-quite-top-6 D men was a fuckin struggle

I know people will think I’m crazy but if I could pick one defenceman to build a team around (including Makar) I’m taking McAvoy . I think he’s the most well rounded guy in the league and is a future Norris winner, he’s like a swiss army knife , he can do it all at an elite level. People sleep on his offensive ability
Nice to see JoMo get some respect. He’s not perfect defensively, but considering the forwards he has to cover for the guy plays good hockey in his own end. A wizard in offence

McDonagh is getting older now, but when he was paired with Cernak they were a force. Without that pair we don’t have two cups. I wish we could’ve kept him, but that’s the cap for ya.

Favorite “Pure” Shutdown guy has gotta be Cernak. Our team fucking blows without him in the lineup, such a steadying presence on the blueline.
Best Pure shutdown guy is probably Adam Pelech tho, dude is a little underrated still for how much of a moving brick wall the guy is. Trotz pelech felt like a black hole for any offensive potential for the opposing team.
