Last year all we needed was one more win so when it comes to the regular season, it doesn’t matter if it’s the first game or the last game they are all extremely important the fact that we played with absolutely no structure Evgenii Malkin decided to stay home constantly being lazy with the puck. Seems like these coaches need to be fired. You’ve had long enough to get this team ready for game one and you put a guy on the ice that you just picked up was there not any other players that we have? That would’ve been ready or was it the case that Chicago had a superstar player and he had to have his first win for the television cameras on ESPN kissing his ass
Already letting game's get away from having a Two Goal lead.
But once again thier goalie out did are's
DK im real nervous about EK65. i know its game one, but i think he really needs to tighten up his D. i know hes never been a stellar defensive defensman, but we cant have him selling on the D end and not producing points. im sure the points will come, but what im worried about is if they dont, cause watching him yesterday was tough
It's going to take a couple games for them to all of the start to gel together
Same Penguins. Different year. We're missing the playoffs. We're too old. The era is over. I'm depressed.
This season's raw for Pittsburgh and EK65 and Riley Smith and everyone else but the hawks are ushering a new kid (who is labeled the next Sid/Mcdavid Don't get me wrong). Besides Bedard who wasn't impressive… we lost to Rockford 2.0 ft Taylor Hall… Feels bad right now….
First and 3rd line seemed ok. 2nd line should figure it out but carter on that 4th line just doesnt do it for me. I know many people believe he is a better hockey player than the league min guys but he is just too slow and appears to not want to use his big frame defensively or physically. I know its game one but even in the pre season he looked slow and unengaged to me at certain times. Give me big Z or white out there and i think you have something closer to the buzzsaw line. We need a 4th line who can handle tough assigments and closings out games.
Oh well, on to the next one.
Why didn’t they know what to do in the Hawks end?!
Lack of preparation. Who’s responsible for that? Not sanguine on Sully fixing things.
If the teams 18-20-4 at the all star break , Sullivan’s safe ? He needs to be just as accountable.
Even though the top line had both goals lines 3 & 4 were very good I felt. The power play………oh my🫣. Just my observations DK.
Have we beaten Chicago once in like the last 15 years?…honestly…we couldn't beat Chicago if they had a bunch of nuns on their team…we would still find a way to lose…didn't they have like 3 teenagers on their D last night?!… pathetic
I am trying to just move past it and remember it is game 1, but when this happened last night it's like here we go again, because it happened all too often last year. I am trying to remember a lof of the guys on this team are still getting used to playing together: If you think about it, the only full line that played together last year, was Crosby's line with Guentzel and Rust every other line has at least one person ,that is new to playing together:
– Reilly Smith on Malkin's line with Rakell
– The whole third line is new with DOC, Eller, and Harkins
– The whole fourth line is new to playing together as well with Acciari, Nieto, and Carter
Even the defensive pairs
– Graves is new to playing with Letang
– Karlsson is new to playing with Pettersson
It sucks it happened in game 1, but move past it and just get ready for the next game I do think as these guys play together more things will improve. You hate to see what happened too often last year, happen in the first game of the season, but it's a marathon not a sprint.
Same issues…non existent 3rd and 4th lines. Defensive let downs…Need I say more…
Deja vu. Some people were calling this a revenge game. Haha
Saying Jarry played well is just fucking delusional
Some stupid penalties…Carter wtf holding stick in front of ref? No one in that room should not be pissed about blowing a lead to start the season. Feel bad for Guentzel getting robbed twice you could tell he wanted to win real bad.
Let's all just calm down, there is a long season ahead. We were on fire at this time last year and look at what happened.
Just game one? Whew, that's a relief. Thanks for letting us know this, Captain Obvious. I was ready to jump off a tall building or something, but just game 1? I'll climb down now. Problem is: it wasn't just game one. That's why as you putt it, it was deflating. season opening game one losses typically aren't deflating. If this was Dallas, or even the Flyers, one could make the low hanging "game one" excuse. This was game one of a season in which everyone was super excited because of all the positive roster change that was supposed to make the team better and somehow different this season than the miserable one that preceded it. And by the grace of the well too aware schedule makers, they got a do over matchup against the same team that effectively ended their 16-season playoff streak by just showing up. They should have been trying to make a statement to some degree as far as them proving they were going to be better this season with a do-over against the same opponent, regardless of anything else. Just the level of excitement in the building alone should have been enough to make a difference. That place was loud and pumped. No mention of that? And guess what? It was game one for Chicago too, and some of those same IceHogs players were now starters for the Blackhawks, and they were on the road (again) with an even bigger Bedard distraction to deal with. Didn't stop them from winning, did it? Could have gone either way? Yeah, I don't think so. Game one or game fifty, there's is still some deeper and inherent issue with this teams compete level when it matters, whether it is the start of the season, any third period lead in the middle of it, or a possible playoff eliminating game at the end, and something tells me we'll be revisiting this narrative over and over through out the season. But at least we have the comforting game one excuse to make it feel better…for now.
I was nervous through pre-season and now I'm really nervous. I know predictions after 1 game are silly, but I'm getting serious "gonna miss the playoffs again" vibes.
Vegas and Tampa easily dispatched their opponents even if they played sloppy.
This is just Sullivan hockey now, not even sure he has a system anymore other than skating fast.
Jarry played well, until the third when he let in Chicagos only two scoring chances. Need a save from him, but we never get it. Same story as last year and why the Penguins blew third period leads at the second highest clip in the league.
Turn a roster over with 5 new guys in bottom six and keep the same top two lines, nothing changed, at least in game 1.
Pardon the fans PTSD, but this is 83 games in a row of this. It's like Mike Tomlin, and the Matt Canada Steelers. Same bs, different year, with some different players while the coach gets carte blanche.
The most disconcerting point in it all last night was losing the lead after having it into the third period
Sorry but I really don’t care if it’s Game 1 or 82. We had a terrible problem last year with maintaining leads and it cost us a playoff spot. And the first thing we see this season is another blown lead in the 3rd. Well we changed a good portion of the roster and got a new GM to avoid this now. Looking more and more that we didn’t change what we really needed to. Sorry Sully but what does it matter if you’re “hard to play against” if we consistently do it for 40 mins of a 60 min game. Embarrassing
