@Ligue nationale de hockey

It’s irksome because the team as a whole received no penalty whatsoever. The only punishment fell on a guy already long gone and another who was on his way out the door.

  2. HaroldBaws

Business first, fair sports league second.

  3. jurkajurka

You mean the league that suspends a dude for gambling on another sport for 41 games that pushes gambling ads hard during every game might be a tad hypocritical?

  4. 50TurdFerguson

Because Fuck the Rapehawks that’s why

  5. sniff-my-babcock

They aren’t saying that they would have lost Bedard if they lost a first round pick.

They are saying there was no punishment to the team and then they ended up getting a generational player in Bedard. It’s just unfair, ya know?

  6. LosPatos47

Because all that the Blackhawks org got with the cover up was a slap on the wrist. Hockey is the best sport with the worst league

  7. As long as Bettman is in charge, the league will struggle to move forward. He’s a cancer to the league, and everyone except him realizes it

“Screw up a trade for dadonov to the leagues favourite sweetheart = lose first round pick,”

    ftfy

I mean, they went generally unpunished. Almost all staff involved got to walk away, and the players that had the platform and were silent weren’t even talked about.

That whole Chicago fiasco was pretty dark. Ottawa getting raw doged while the Hawks got nothing.

NHL is such a joke League. Hockey is an amazing sport, it sucks how greed and favoritism poison this wonderful sport.

I can’t wait until his first game back so I can check the odds on his over/under on points in the game.

  12. PoopSlinger23

Oh but I said this before about Chicago and I was told I’m just a hater and I’m mad that we didn’t get the #1

  13. Captobvious75

OP misses the point completely 🤦‍♂️

I feel like the punishment for sexual assault and the cover-up should be more severe than fucking up a botched trade. But yes, in theory the punishment would have been the 1st rounder the year before Bedard. But the fact Ottawa lost a 1st rounder and Chicago lost 1 million dollars they easily made up before the NHL even cashed the cheque is a joke. You could even argue Chicago should have forfeited their 2022 1st and their 2023 1st is 32nd at best. Like, it’s crazy how Atlanta got a worse punishment for Kovalchuk’s contract and Ottawa had a worse punishment for a trade that didn’t even go through.

Hell, a lot of the people involved are still in the business as well or at the very least are in the running for jobs around the league. Accountability is next to nothing. I mean, at this point Pinto’s suspension for gambling is more severe than what Chicago lost for sexual assault and the cover-up. Lol. Like, what are we even doing here?

For a sexual assault cover up, the Hawks should have lost 3+ first round picks IMO. That’s just absolutely inexcusable and the punishment should have been decimating to the franchise.

  16. scarface-da-realest

With Bett da bich the league is a business first and foremost

  17. DrakeFromGrapeFarm

All this anger and outrage over a settled sexual assault case when the Capitols have a guy who supports the slaughter of innocent Ukrainians as their leader.

  18. NoGuarantee9645

Key thing to notice. Original 6 American team. Or small market Canadian team. Fuck Bettman

  19. VisibleAd3180

Don’t fuck with your big markets

  20. tiggertom66

Hockey related infraction incurs hockey related punishment

Sexual assault isn’t a penalty, it’s a crime. The league should always cooperate with the appropriate authorities, and consider punishments for the individuals involved.

But it has fuck all to do with the game.

Like if a player was charged with domestic violence, I expect the league to do something about *that* particular player. But I wouldn’t expect them to give another player a 5 minute major in the next game.

  21. Ahappyoldman

I mean we should’ve been punished, much, *Much* more. But that’s on Bretts for not doling out a harsher punishment.

The outcry for a harsher punishment now isn’t for Kyle Beach; it’s punishment because they won the lottery.

But that being said, if the Sens lost a first for a trade botch; the fucking Hawks should’ve lost *YEARS* of picks.

But from a business standpoint, Brettman isn’t gonna do that to an original 6 team and destroy the 4th most valuable franchise in the league.

Is it fair? No, absolutely fucking not. But that’s the way Brettmans running things and that won’t change until he’s no longer commissioner.

  22. spaceporter

If I’m being honest, I really like that Bedard went to Chicago. He’s safely in the Western Conference, on an original six team with a storied past, is close enough to Toronto that I’ll be able to go to a home game at some point if he does become a threat to McDavid’s reign…

On the one hand, I hate they weren’t punished but on the other, purely selfish, one, it’s a great franchise for him to join.

  23. Stunning_risotto

Not true they should have lost multiple first rounders

  24. Kooky_Inevitable5648

The use of “there” by OP is the most painful thing about *their* post, *they’re* not great at the whole grammar thing

  25. LostBeneathMySkin

If Chicago lost a 1st round pick for that most people still wouldn’t be satisfied. You could breathe towards that Ian Kennedy guy in the wrong way and he’d be offended.
