In his prime an amazing and electric player, one who any touch of the puck could result in a jaw dropping play or highlight real goal. A pure offensive magician. Slick, fast, dynamic. Worth the price of admission. This coming from a NY Ranger fan so no home-team Vancouver bias. When we got him he was a shell with hobbled knees and still was pretty darn good.

Could have been a sure shot Top 20 if his knees didn’t give out. Never seen a more dominant player every time they stepped on the ice. The one season in Florida is one of my favorite memories growing up

  3. WackHeisenBauer

Another one of those players (also see: Paul Kariya) who would be at the top of the heap best players in the league if playing today and not in the hook slash and crosscheck dead puck era of the league.

He is an elbow above a lot of other players.

The injury shortened career makes it harder to put him in the top 20 forwards all time. But his talent level was there. In today’s game, he’d be a regular Richard winner. Which is an understatement considering he had that level of execution in the 90s too. Like other all time greats, he seemed to be playing at a level ten years ahead of his time.

If Ovi’s knees gave out early, we’d talk about him in something like the same breath as Bure.

    Somewhere between 10th and 96th

Joking aside absolutely phenomenal player. One of the best of his time.

  7. Hairygull

One of the most exciting to watch regardless

  8. shmoove_cwiminal

Great player cut down by injuries. Weird to use a Panthers pic though. He played twice as many games in Vancouver and had his best seasons there.

  9. Senior-Valuable-8621

My favorite after Gretzky when I was young. The things he did with a puck were amazing.

  10. Aabbppll

I wanted us to get him so bad when Roy was on the block

  11. Deadbolt2023

Injuries cheated us (and him, obviously) – just an awesome, gifted player to watch.

  12. keivmoc

Subjectively? #1. He’s the reason I cheer for Vancouver to this day.

  13. spaceporter

I’d put him in the 25-50 group. He’s likely in the top of that range. There’s no case for Top 5 or Top 10, and without thinking too deeply I can come with enough obviously better players to say probably not Top 25 either.

  14. Wtfgoinon3144

Idk but he’s great. Ahead of his time. Got a Canucks Bure shirt when I was at the hockey hall of fame 10 years ago, and I still wear it to this day

  15. dr_van_nostren

Great. But a career cut short by injury.

  16. VizzleG

Bure speeding by in a black Canucks jersey = Fond memory.

  17. Putthebunnyback

I would definitely rank him as one of the forwards of all time.

  18. SonicDenver

This man would have a field day in todays NHL

  19. Mindfield87

The rocket. He was great, and also a high stat player in EA NHL 94, if you for whatever reason picked the Canucks. Anyone else here spend stupid amounts of time playing that?

  20. Somewhere between 50 and 100.

His problem is his peak years are just too short, and he missed a lot of time due to injury. He was also a very one dimensional player, even if that dimension was amazing. He also only made the playoffs 5 times, and only got past the second round once.

So to me he’s a very poor man’s version of Mike Bossy.

  21. Hey_look_new

    loved watching Bure.

if he’d been as durable as Ovi, he’d be the one pushing for grerzkys record imo

but durability/longevity are big parts of all time records

Bure was the most exciting guy with the puck until macdavid

  22. PicassoBullz

Bure opened the door for speed and skill to take over the league a La ovie to mcdavid to McKinnon to bedard

  23. CrabBeanie

Only behind Lemieux and Bossy in goals-per-game during career. But so many of those goals were just insane, especially considering you could build a home on a guys back and live in it those days.

  24. Psyykikko

I still have nightmares time to time when this guy scored like 5 goals against Finland.

  25. nb00818

Hes in the « bure/datsyuk/lemeiux » tier. Extremely talented, skilled and creative.

  26. CertainWork8416

Was putting up 60 goals a season in the dead puck era.

Would easily be top 5 in goals all time if he played in this era and had better knees

  27. Odd-Elderberry-6137

Tough call. There have been so many great RW.

When he was at his best, he was a top 10 (RW) talent – so electric and one of the best pure goal scorers ever. His best was unfortunately short lived, which probably puts him just outside the top 10 RW all time.
