What you say is true DK, it definitely feels like a different crowd for the most part.
From where I'm at alot of the Hockey crowds are exclusively hockey.
Sometimes there's an obvious comfort factor that leads to bad play on home ice. I've been watching this game and this team as long as you DK, and after decades you notice patterns and tendencies that develop pertaining to where and when they are playing. How many times in a season do they go through a bad stretch and a long road trip seems to set them straight again? Still fresh in my mind is the long successful road trip last season that seemed to really make them a top team again. Happened again this season as well. Rarely do you see them playing poorly on the road, and then find an answer to their problems with some home cooking. This is a team that's been tagged as being too comfortably complacent for years now, and I'm convinced that without road games to get them refocused from time to time, they'd have a worse record than if they played all their games at home.
I feel sorry for these kids being indoctrinated into pro sports fandom. It's kind of sick. I see all these little kids running around with Browns jerseys on and I feel sad for them. Their parents set them up for a lifetime of sadness and disappointment. Why do people teach their kids to care so much for something they have no control over?
Went to a Steeler bar in San Francisco to watch a Playoff game. Literally wall to wall people. People were pissing out the windows because you couldn't get to the bathrooms. Funny thing was; most of the fans there had never been to Pittsburgh.
