A tough loss tonight. We had our chances to win. It appears the wings wins hinge on if the offense shows up. Our defense & goal tending is poor. But it's consistently poor. We know what to expect. But if the offense doesn't show up, we lose.

2 goals on 39 shots is an excellent night for ANY goalie. If Holl had wrapped up Staal's stick they'd still be playing. Looks like Husso has worked at square to the puck and his splits were quicker. Compare Ville to any Oiler goalie and hope this signals a return to form. The Canes boxed us out so well we had Kane shooting from 50' out. Got beat by a better drilled, defensively tighter team. I'd be interested to see what Newsey works on in practice.

Copp has to go. Very disappointed in his production. DeBrincat will have trouble scoring based on where he is positioning himself. I blame this on Tanguay’s system. Natural stat trick had the wings registered for zero high danger chances. Which is kind of crazy to me. But CAR did a real good job of keeping the Wings to the outside. They could not get any shots in the slot. Against STL most of the goals were rebounds. Im not sure we got to any rebounds this game.
Husso's like a better Tim Cheveldae, in that he doesn't even wait for the playoffs to do stupid crap that costs the Red Wings.

Last game with Seider's mistake exactly the same…when you watch Ras ..where he was standing and suddenly runs to the side and therefore Seider's pass is intercepted & no one mentions him, I can't understand that.

I don't see Rasmussen as a "victim of increased depth". It's a contract year for him. He can and should be doing much more to prove he belongs on this team, and he really hasn't up to this point. It's good to see he's doing more to try to prove that, but his future is in his hands here.

My take-aways
1 need help on breakout. The canes were taking away the halfwall bump play, wings didn’t adjust
2 zone entries were a problem. Clean entry taken away with sticks and forwards being back, dump ins were also hard because of the pick play on the shooter, need a second guy in on the forecheck
3 Rasmussen had a bad game defensively, didn’t take his guy on the first goal, almost happened again
On more positive side, Rasmussen has looked really good. Majority of the season he seemed slow and not confident, but maybe he’s confident and back to game time timing after his knee injury
At some point this team gets it together–whether Lalonde is there or not is the ultimate question! All the pieces are there. If they don't start to climb the standings by mid-January you have to call in Steve's buddy Gerard Gallant and string 20 wins in a row.
