Despite the doom and gloom, fire Vitek into the sun, etc. comments we came from behind 2 goals to get a point in a a game we really had no business being in. Considering Bill mentioned we currently are playing with 8 players from our opening night roster. It’s an important point. And no, you can’t just start a rookie Daws every single game after 3 starts back from hip surgery. That would be incredibly dumb. We just need to stay afloat right now while we wait for our guys to come back from injury. The guys fought hard with the skeleton crew of a roster we’re currently icing.
Obligatory fuck offsides challenges. If it’s something that the ref doesn’t catch in real time, it has zero effect on the play and the flow of the game. Offsides should not be challengeable unless Toronto catches something egregious.
Kind of an odd criticism here but I’m really not a fan of Mercer in OT. He doesn’t seem to understand the importance possession. He typically makes risky plays that could lead to turnovers. Obviously I’m a big fan of him as a player but he needs to be more aware in OT
Here’s a hard truth/hot take some of you need to hear.
Lindy isn’t going anywhere, and neither is VV. We most likely are not trading for a goalie. Not unless a deal comes along that makes sense.
This team as-is would be damn near top of the league with average goaltending. You may hate Ruff, lord knows he can be frustrating, but he’s developed these players well enough that we can compete with a damn near half AHL lineup.
We’re also not going to trade away big pieces just to get a goalie, which is what it would take in the current market. We’re not “win now” and it would be a disservice to the future of what’s being built to do so. The window just opened for the Devils. It’s better to be patient and wait for the right time to get a goalie cause now ain’t it.
**have some patience and stop allowing your tiktok-addled instant gratification mindset throw you into a tizzy when this just might not be the season we expected**

if Daws is in net they probably win that game 3-1, maybe 3-2. Overall I’m happy with how the team played, Tampas a good team, tho granted not TAMPA anymore. They got a point, Canucks did us a favor, brush it off and on to the next one.
It would be very unfortunate if they start Daws against Florida, a significantly better team than the lightning recently, and he gets shelled. Fucking infuriating.
We got a 64% on the « deserve to win meter » and had 3.15xG to their 2.3xG.
Even with a ravaged lineup we’re playing very much well enough to win a lot of these games. With average goaltending we’d be sitting comfortably in a playoff spot, even with all the injuries and some overall mediocre play to our standards.
It just sucks watching an underacheiving team being held back by the league’s 2nd worst goaltending by almost every metric. Add in the defensive brainfarts and we just can’t string together a bunch of wins like we did last year
I honestly don’t understand how VV can look these boys in the eye night after night after these performances.
Vanecek is not one of the worst goalies in the league, he IS the worst. Daws should’ve gotten this game and the next.
Really Thought We Played the Better Game Tonight:
* Sucks that it didnt end up with two points, but I’ll take the one point.
* Gutsy come back effort from the guys. Second half of the game was basically ours.
* OT is really when you miss Jack.
* I think there are quite a few positives to take from this game though
* For one, we stood toe to toe and I thought were actually better at a lot of points in the game against Tampa.
* There were a lot of questions coming in as to how the Devs would respond with all of the injuries and all of the call ups and I think they showed that they’re not dead yet.
* Props to the Utica guys on the fourth line. They definitely didn’t make any glaring mistakes and seemed really solid which is what we need while we try to get our guys back.
* Thought this game was one of our better team games. The mistakes were more so individual rather than systemic.
* Ah, VV. Kept us in it with some real clutch saves after giving up the third goal. You want so bad for him to find his groove again. And he has moments in games, but overall man, its just not there. Absolutely not there. Sucks. Really needs to be addressed. This isn’t sustainable. You need your goalie to make that extra one or two saves in games like this.
* I was kind of pissed at Lindy (nothing new) about the lines, but seeing them play the top two lines were working really really well and I think they should stay together. I would think about switching Toff and Holtz maybe…
* Surprisingly, little complaints about the D pairs as well.
* Really loving Colin Miller.
* I think we’re going to be okay for this stretch without the missing boys. They just gotta dig deep.
Wanna really get points from the next two games, but its gonna be tough. Panthers are real hot right now and we know Boston is a tough opponent. But getting three-four points from the rest of this road trip would be super clutch.
This is going to sound negative, but I honestly mean it in a positive way, we are a goalie away from being an elite team in this league.
Can we just send VV to the AHL and ride it out with Schmid and Daws? I know VV would go to waivers, but at this point he brings nothing to the team. Even when he’s playing his best it can all collapse in a second with him.
I want Lindy fucking fired and a trade for a goalie.
This season already feels like it’s over with the injuries and the schedule, but with this shitty coach making terrible decisions and VV being the worst goalie in the league we have 0 chance.
Remember all those people defending V and saying the problem was defense?
Pepperidge Farm remembers
Yes we lost but they played a hell of a game tonight. A lot more physical than any other game this year, great board battles, pressuring, in both zones. This depleted roster is forced to play without the finesse and goes with hustle instead. Very refreshing to see.
Devils will not make any real run without a goalie. Vitek is not it. We can all admit it, I’m unsure we’ll get the goalie we need this season, but we need an actual goaltender to be a playoff contender
I didn’t watch the game live, but I’m obsessively refreshing the HockeyStatCards Twitter page. I thought Bowers and Willman looked pretty disciplined out there.
Thought it was a gutsy effort and I think they’ll persevere during these injuries.
Goaltending is the issue. Unquestionably.
Also seems like an unpopular opinion but I am not on the fire Lindy train at all. Always thought he’s done a fine job since he’s gotten here, especially with player development. Really think the issue just is and has been goaltending
On another site I heard tonight was Bratt’s fault because he didn’t score 5 goals. LOL!
Not to pile on the guy, cause he is unreal for stretches, and I like him from what he did last year. But Vanecek is getting picked on glove side. Saw it last game he played; Blackhawks targeted it, and goals 2 and 4 both tn. Also Kucherov missed wide – glove side – on his breakaway.
I still think that missing 2 of the top 4 defensemen to injury and a learning curve for newer Dmen has had a significant effect on previous outcomes of games, they’ve also largely caught up. But if I can see where teams are scoring/attacking then there’s no doubt every team in the league is on it when they play the Devils.
Viteks numbers are legit almost as bad as Jon Gillies when Gillies is a career AHLer playing on a god awful team, Vitek is on a team with metrics that should have them as a top 10 team in the nhl.
Goaltending is the biggest issue even a head of the injuries.
Damn Sharangovich been killin it lately 🙁
I just looked at Schmids stats since being sent down to the AHL and, uh, yeah. Guess we ride Daws and hope for the best. All three goalies have near identical stats, not sure what the play is.
Eh this season is what it is. The losses don’t bother me anymore and it’s nice to see em win. Hopefully they make the playoffs but this definitely isn’t last season’s Devils team.
Tampa missing the net made better saves than VV. I hope he is seeing someone for help, we know he can be better than this but right now the mental is shot.
The Hughes giveth and the Hughes takes away
Wish we got hellebuck or however you spell it
Can we get the leafs zamboni driver as our goalie?
Fuckin A. Hurts to give up the L but honestly I’m stoked. Vasi was in a mode where he was only gonna get scores on by flukey bounces. We hung in there and played solid fucking hockey for a whole 60 of 62 minutes. Daws should have started this game, but I get sheltering him here. Refs… fuck em. This was a big, big point.
