Honestly I dont like Tanev to the leafs at all. At 34 UFA. Injury history…. Im Passing and if im going after a Defencman its either Hanafin or Parayko, as well as Seeler.
IN order to pull off a Hanafin deal youre giving up atleast Minten and a 1st but im doing it,
C'mon……this has been the case with wanting Tanev forever….. they are cash strapped and I doubt they will do anything til the off season. They are my team but they are NOT CONTENDERS.
Treliving wants Markstrom and Tanev but they don't have the picks, prospects Flames would want.. also Markstrom will only be traded unless he asks to be traded which he hasn't
The problem is that if this is still his attitude the fans want a better Team in Toronto for the playoffs they don't want a better team for the summer.
Can they get Tanev long term and Schenn as a rental wouldn't that be sweet.
only problem with tanev is that many teams are in on it so it will be an overpay.

I cannot keep track of all the rumoured trades Leafs are supposedly close to,its something new every week.Would i like to see them improve? yes of course i would, but adding Tanev, he is a good player but he is not going to make them a contender this season, so it may be unwise to pay a lot to get him. Leafs need quite a lot more than Tanev to go deep in the playoffs and i think Tre should stick with what he has this season and do some serious retooling in the summer.

Leafs D needs a makeover. Nobody is safe on the D other than Reilly IMO . The Leafs should write this season off and wait until the offseason.

He is 34 years old. Why the hell do we want him ? he is too old to play with this team .. its JT and GIo all over again. If he doesnt resign immediately at 2×3 then let calgary keep him. I would rather see 27 year old Rasmus come to toronto. Sweed so he can play with Nylander and it makes a bunch more sense.
I have a hot take on Conner Timmins… it seems like every leafs talk host I listen to has given up on him which I don't get AT ALL..
To my eye test, he's got the talent, size and brains to be a good defender IF he gets enough rope to actually play and develop. He barely has 82 games of NHL experience.. how much rope have we given Lilegren? He has over double that and how recently has he been considered an everyday NHL D?
I'd take Timmins or Lagesson over Brodie at this point.. he CAN NOT handle a puck. You can see in the O zone.. NOBODY WANTS TO PASS TO HIM even if he's wide open before he's guaranteed to fuck up the possession. I get that he has some 'away-from-the-puck' defensive chops, but to be playing with Mo on the top line??? it's not NEARLY good enough
