Not 100% sure but I think it has to do with there being no nets to protect the crowd from rogue pucks would be my guess

I don’t know, but having just been to an outdoor game (Winter Classic in Seattle), I can say with confidence that sitting in the upper deck offers a significantly better view than being down low!

I was just tonight talking to someone who attended a similar outdoor game with near field level seats and they complained they couldn’t see anything except the outside of the boards and wished they had been higher up.

I thought there might be equipment hidden underneath (for the ice, cameras, stage show, etc), but it’s probably renovations and upgrades to meet the FIFA standards for the World Cup.

Literally has nothing to do with World Cup renovations.
They’re replacing parts of the lower bowl with retractable seats for the 2026 world cup and I guess Mara wants full capacity for Taylor Swift instead of the Rangers
