@Ligue nationale de hockey

Quebec and Hartford, unfortunately, aren’t viable options for an expansion team. Quebec is just a smaller, worse, Winnipeg when it comes to a corporate base and Hartford has like 120,000 people. There’s no room to grow the game in either location as well.

Atlanta is more likely to get a third attempt than Hartford or Quebec City is to get a second.

I’ve never heard anyone suggest Hartford as a viable expansion location.

  3. I do miss the Thrashers pretty badly…

All I know is that one of these teams needs to replace Arizona when Bettman steps out.

Carolina is better than Hartford for a team lmao

  6. doughflow

The only thing Hartford has going for it is a bitchin logo

Maybe 3rd times a charm for Atlanta or hey how about this….stop trying to force it, it doesn’t work there.

  8. Retro_Sphynx

Atlanta has had two hockey franchises in different decades. That city doesn’t deserve another one.

The Northeast & Atlantic regions are never getting another team. Gary is all about expanding into new markets, not giving into demand of existing ones.

Balancing East-West geographically makes no sense when you look at the population distribution of the US, and to a lesser extent Canada.

The population of the US is highly concentrated on the East coast and West coast (but actually just California.)

Comparatively few people live on the Western half of the US.

[Here’s](https://images.app.goo.gl/CK6d4k2XQu4urMJT6) a population density map of the US.

You can never split the NHL evenly East-West because you’d have too many teams in underpopulated regions or force too many teams into California.

Hartford simply isn’t happening. It’s not located in a good location because there’s already 3 teams in the NYC area and 1 in Boston. No need for another team there, overloads the market.

Quebec City simply isn’t happening. It’s too small, the corporate backing isn’t there, and there isn’t a lot to gain for the NHL to come there

Atlanta would work with the right people in charge. Not dissimilar to Vegas and Seattle.

Detroit back to the Western Conference!

The Hartford Whalers are the greatest team the NHL neigh any sport has ever had.

  14. het1709

Probably not fiscally possible but I’d love to see a team for one of the Atlantic provinces of Canada

  15. RattyDaddyBraddy

My brother lives in Hartford and it breaks my heart every time I get off a plane and am bombarded with Whalers apparel. Blows my mind that the team left nearly 30 years ago. The fans there are still so loyal, I could swore it was 15/20 at most

  16. vector_ejector

    Does Atlanta like hockey now??

  17. Dependent_Weight2274

If Hartford gets a team, I demand that Van Nuys, CA also gets a team. Higher population than Hartford, and it would be easier for me to get to games than going all the way Downtown for the Kings or to Anaheim for the Ducks.

Thrashers were trash, but Nordiques and Whalers were solid.

  19. Soultampered

no. Atlanta had 2 chances already, they don’t get a 3rd.

  20. Boring_Ad_7100

Atlanta can go fly a kite – and to be honest I want them to get a franchise so when they inevitably fail – Canada gets a new team via relocation. Third time’s the charm

  21. 586WingsFan

All of these teams failed for a reason, and that reason hasn’t really been addressed in any of these markets. Winnipeg is proving trying the same thing again will yield the same results

  22. a7xgemzy

To be fair, Quebec comes up for anyone else but Buttman. The man doesn’t want another Canada franchise.

  23. koozer19

Does anyone else love the thrashers logo or is it just me?

  24. Go_Buds_Go

Nordiques had the worst logo in all of sports. Hartford had the best.

  25. FourLeaf_Tayback

There is one very salty, serial downvoting, hartford fan in this thread wow

  26. uSaltySniitch

Québec should come back. Huge hockey market there. Arena would always be full even if they finish last

  27. EmperorAnthony

32 teams is enough to be honest…

  28. WerewolfDesigner5748

But only 2 of them deserve an NHL team, Hartford and Quebec… Atlanta has failed twice already, and already support NFL football, NBA Basketball, and MLB Baseball (is there ANY entertainment dollars there for the support of ANOTHER NHL Hockey team in a VERY non-traditional market?)… Quebec lost Le Nordiques because they didn’t have an NHL arena (the city has pledged to build one) and to be honest, I know so little about Hartford and why they lost the Whalers, but I know there is a call from the New England fan base for another professional Hockey team, and The Whalers old stomping grounds would be an obvious choice because of the growth of the area.

  29. Gwtrailrunner19

I still don’t know why the NHL doesn’t put a teen in Saskatchewan? They get 15k fans to lacrosse games and nobody plays the sport there. People wear watermelons on their head to watch CFL football in -40 weather. They would pack the SaskTel centre every game.
