I just cant fuckin believe you cant shop around seamus casey, draft picks, maybe also Holtz, to find a goalie, EARLIER THAN MARCH! Even if we just got conor ingram in say December, that’s enough. So annoying.
At this point, I don’t care who ends up in net as long as he’s better than a potato sack with a smiley face painted on it.
Ah yes a older goalie will fix it
If you’re waiting until the off-season, how much more do you have to add to the Markstrom offer to instead offer that for Saros who will be extension eligible?
I sincerely hope we get Markstrom, and I’m actually okay with giving up Holtz for a 2 year tour with a perennial super solid goalie tbh
Why is a 34 year old goalie our #1 target? He has maybe 3 solid years left, assuming he isn’t having one last resurgence year before going on a decline. We have a young team who is ready to begin a decade of dominance. Unless they are that confident in Daws or Schmid developing in that time, trading for Markstrom really doesn’t make sense to me.
Yes, he is an upgrade over what we have right now, but the cost may be more than we should be willing to give up
Just too much work and dragged out for no reason . Even if he was guaranteed to be the best goalie which can argue he isn’t but this whole thing has been a disaster
Horrible management on the Calgary side.
“Hey would you waive to go to NJ, Get ready to pack your shit”
“Damn okay was a good run I guess”
“JK stay here loser, and everyone knows you said you’d leave!”
Meanwhile NJ still wants him so it’s clear we didn’t back out and it was on Calgary side.
Shame too marky would have us in a playoff spot. Had he been with us since December this seasons an entirely different out look and this sub isn’t a manic 13 year old blog by now.
I wonder how much the Crawford and Bernier situations are impacting peoples value of Markstrom.
Friedman has said several times they see this as acquiring a veteran leader as much as a goalie improvement
Can someone explain to me why we aren’t going after Saros instead?
Markstrom would have been a fine move 2 months ago. Too little too late. Get a better goalie in the offseason.
He’s too expensive and over 30. Get someone younger.
Everybody saying NO to Markstrom are severely discounting the effect a vet/reliable bordlerline elite goalie will have on this team. We thrive on the offense and defense taking risks to drive play. How many more times do you need to hear our star player explicitly say “when you get the saves it is much easier”. The momentum of the game starts and ends with the goalkeeper making timely saves.
I swear some of y’all care more about some theoretical asset management than just improving the team. Trust in the GM that has literally locked up all of our young talent to basically bargain bin deals…
One of our fans gave him the middle finger in section 3. Markstrom wasn’t happy about it. Surprised he still wants to be here
Fan of the talent and the experience, but fucking lipstick on a pig if they think Rogalski is the right goalie coach.
I blame the Devils more than anything. They’ve lost games they should have won to be in a playoff spot
They should play to be in the playoffs and Marky will be the bonus. Not get Marky first, then MAYBE make the playoffs.
I admittedly wanted Saros over anything else and am wary of markstrom, but this makes sense. The Preds are on an 8 game winning streak and in a playoff spot, they’re not letting go of Saros until at least the offseason if they even decide to trade him. Markstrom is our best shot atm especially since the price should now be lower with pressure on Calgary and not retaining. I just don’t know what Calgary is doing right now. They traded off some of their best players like Lindholm and Tanev and likely Hanifin soon, why did they decide suddenly to keep Markstrom?
He may be only a short term solution, but buys us quite a bit of time to address the goalie room and hopefully Daws/Schmid/Poulter can develop to be good starters
Not to beat a dead horse, but no matter who we get to be in net, I have concerns about regression under Rogalski. In fact, I have concerns about any player under the current coaching and conditioning paradigm.
Not saying we don’t need tweaks to the roster by any means, and I think a solid vet goaltender would help to some extent, but it kind of feels like putting lipstick on a pig.
I dont want this goalie
Anyone else think he’s too old? And he had a really bad season last year and start to this year.
Love the « get SomEOne eLSe » crew. Who? There was one target last summer. Check ufas this summer. It’s barren. This is a necessary move.
I like it. Wait until the offseason and get a better deal. Not being in the playoffs means there’s no reason to overpay now.
I just feel bad for Markstrom on a human level. He’s got a super young family.
Imagine being asked to waive your NTC for NJ agreeing to it and probably having to start looking into the dynamics of moving your family only to be told, “lol nevermind.”
I’m not super on board with Markstrom, but Calgary is treating him like shit.
