Throw all of the old players into the get rid of pile. It's over. They can be wise and cautious about how they do this. Jake is not the future. Get a deal and move forward.
I reckon he was going after Perrault packaged from the Rangers and they backed off
Trade Jake Guentzel to Vancouver for Nils Hoglander and Tom Willander or Vasily Podkolzin or a 1st. Canucks trade Elias Lindholm to Boston for something. Trade Reilly Smith to the Bruins for Jake Debrusk. Debrusk and Hoglander refresh the Pens.
I still think jake/the penguins are better off staying here. What makes me nervous is that it doesnt sound like jake wants to resign with the penguins and talks haven't even taken place. So he wants to hit the open market?
Jake pots clutch goals in the playoffs and will improve a team's ability to get wins in the playoffs. The counterparty will need to pay for the ability to get a few playoff goals now. Elsewise, no reason to donate him for what is not helpful for our objectives. Tarasenko didn't bring back a whole lot and if this is the return for Jake, I'm ok to not see him go.
A good sign that you really messed up signing Jarry is this scenario right now. For some reason the entire team is available to trade because no one is playing well enough. The reason always always comes back to not trusting that your goalie can win the game under pressure. The team remembers the Islanders series, they also remember last season. Signing Jarry instead of getting a better goalie in the offseason has led to the point where now they don't know what to do and they are going to cut off an arm because they made poor decisions 9 months ago.
What I love most about DK is that he gets up really early! Also, he approaches these matters reasonably. DK, my only respectful request, please make more of your articles free to read brother!!
Pens must stack Ws, regardless of who remains on the roster, finish strong!
I still think the worst possibility is Jake doesn't get traded and then leaves in the off-season for nada. This organization can't afford that.
There are a few reporters/writers stating that Jake is actually miffed at the Penguins for not prioritizing him like they did the holy trinity core and at least try to get a contract worked out sooner before the season started, so once it got well into the season he decided he was going to explore free agency no matter what, so I don't think the Pens hold as strong a hand in these trade discussions as people think with signing him before Friday if they don't get back what they want in a trade, and other teams know it. He's gone one way or another and the Pens will have to pay, (maybe even more than others) if they want to get him in the offseason. Just to be clear, these aren't part-time basement bloggers making these claims like Dejan will suggest, they are legitimate and established sports reporters who also do this for a living, who mostly only cover hockey, who have their inside sources too, and don't on the side report all other local sports and sell merchandise from a store front too. So they are just as credible, if not more so.
Am I the only one imagining Dejan sitting in the middle of the the street at 1001 Fifth Ave, tied to a barricade with a Save Jake! sign, protesting this presumed atrocity? I could easy mock up a photoshop of this but there's no way of posting it here.
Does DK realize Jake’s contract is up at the end of the year? I’d love to keep Jake too but if the two sides aren’t close on an extension it wouldn’t be idiotic to get less than what you’re saying. Letting him walk away for nothing would be idiotic.
Sid has given the Pens a hometown discount for years and years so they could use that money to get good players to play with him. Well they have that player playing with him now . There's no guessing involved and no hoping involved, quite simply Sid and Jake have chemistry together Well It's time to use " some " of that money that Sid gave to give Jake the contract that he so richly deserves, letting him know that they consider him a big part of the team. If you trade him I think you run the risk of damaging Sid's spirit, something that you won't be able to get back. Do you really want to run that risk ?
I commented on a PHN article, saying 'am I the only one that hopes they can keep Jake?'.
And my comment got -4 votes.
What if Dubas signs Guentzel on June 30 for 7 years at $84M ($12M AAV) through 2031 … everybody good if that happens?
I would love to see the Pens go into next season with Frederick Andersen … the best available goalie in free agency … as their #1 goalie next season or some other goalie with an .880 sv% … and watch all these Jarry haters complain when they are worse than the Sharks because they are giving up 4 goals a game.
The Penguins need to look at what the Devils did in firing Ruff. They haven’t given up on their season and fired Ruff to try to salvage it. The pens are in a better position than the Devils and OWE it to Sid to do whatever they can to try and salvage this season. These guys all took pay cuts for one more chance at the cup, and Sullivan is preventing them from realizing their dream. You could love the guy, but he needs to go. See Oilers recent streak AFTER Woodcroft was fired.
The only move Dubas should make, is firing Sullivan and bringing in Ruff or Woodcroft.
Or, if a bag of pucks is available, trade Rakell and Jarry too.
J1Q, How does the conversation go with a player with a no-trade or limited trade clause (or NMC) when a team wants to explore a trade involving that player? I can’t imagine that it’s easy to approach it from the team’s standpoint, and how a player feels when asked to waive their no-trade or submit their list of teams they don’t want to be traded to. Thank you for everything you and the staff does, I really enjoy your work!
If he stays and leaves in the off season but the Penguins stay out of the Top-10 draft picks this year then that in itself might be the best trade as it allows the Penguins to keep next years 1st round draft pick…especially if they are worst next year
I went to the Seattle game as I live in Oregon….that was extremely irritating
Jake isn't going to take a lesser contract like Malkin or Letang just to stay in Pittsburgh or else the conversation would have already been had. He's at the peaking end of his career and this contract will be his last big one. But, if you were willing to push all in on Malkin and Letang and sign Karlsson to 10mil, why would you pass on Jake and not give him what he wants? That means maybe he wants another cup and knows it won't happen in Pittsburgh. We all know keeping Jake at this point would be more nostalgic than sound strategy.
DK, i think you're too wrapped up in your personal relationships with the players. I just don't see how trading a UFA who in the month of March, hasn't signed a contract extension, is the dumbest move Dubas could make. You're definitely speaking from a place of your personal feelings on the player and that's perfectly ok and valid. It just doesn't match reality.
As of a few minutes ago Vancouver said they're out unless the price comes down.
DK, I think a lot of pens fans are forgetting there is still a next year 😂 Pens can flip older players/underperforming players this year and try to retool for next year. I'm hoping Jake doesn't get traded and resigns until Crosby retires because the 2 of them are unstoppable when healthy
Yup. And that’s why I think we will ultimately keep him to finish the year out at least. Dubas isn’t gonna take what he feels like isn’t worth fair price for Jake. And we all know what Jake is worth to us so therefore I don’t think he goes anywhere. If we can keep him longer than this season is to be further discussed..
