Apologies for the lag between video & audio; I recorded this in my live-streaming platform, which I typically don't do. Thanks so much to everyone who joined our trade deadline streams and to our wonderful Discord members!
Good luck Tommy, we'll miss you bud 💙
It really sucks when your favorite team is a stinker with no end in sight. One day the Sharks will raise the Stanley Cup, and to all the fair weather fans you can say, "Welcome aboard! Where have you been?"
Vegas fan here. ⚔️
Also, I personally believe Vegas is in danger of not even making the playoffs. They’re in more trouble than people seem to think. Hopefully this can help them pull it together.
They should've gone for VGK's goalie prospect, Carl Lindbom instead. He's been fantastic in the SHL this season.
Sharks fans droppin like flies
I think I’m gonna root for Pavs and the stars as my new team. Sharks won’t be a 500 team until 2028
I love Couture, not only because he grew up in my home town of Guelph but because He's just a great guy and hockey player… But I really still think Hertl was more of a face then Couture. Sad to see him go, especially for that.
Sharks save about 7 million on salary cap over 6 years and the trade will look better after a couple of years. Got to make those hard heart wrenching decisions if you want to win the cup.
Well that news really sucks for you Sharks fans. Seems like they have traded most of their star players these last few years. Can't believe they took on the salary retention too, especially for 6 years. How the hell can Vegas afford (under the cap) these players? If VGK's and Canes play in Finals I wish they could both lose – Lol. Hoping for a Canucks Cup!
Sorry mate, but I'm not with you regarding this trade.
This was the price the Sharks had to pay for signing hertl in the first place, a way too big contract for a player past his prime now 30+ for 6 more years. 6.5 mil in cap space wisely spent can be so much better than hertl, + a first rounder + a guy that's doing good for frölunda . . . I think greer did pretty good cleaning up the mess he inherited🤔🤔
Canes fan here, we'll take care of VGK for you
I personally like the trade…
Like look it sucks, but the Cap is going up. Retention slots don't mean/won't mean much as we move forward.
What was Tomas going to do? Toil away another few years and get a ceremony? We have to move forward in some way and each year you hold on he depriciates. It hurts, but you add another center prospect and another first into a good pool, that's going to get better. Within 3 Years we'll have about 70 Million-90 Million in Cap Space and we'll have 2 Mill in dead money, what would the ret slots do anyways in a few years? Get an extra 4th? And when we're compeittive there is NO NEED for em anyways. I liked all the trades, sans the Kahkonen one, but I had a feeling he was leaving in the summer cause he's 27.
The retain part is obsurd. Wasn't that what we were trying to clear out? So it is essentially a 2nd round pick and hopefully a chris Tierney for 2 3rds hertl and a 6 year cap hit. I think hertl wanted out. There's no other way it makes sense. Grier can't be that dumb can he? Hertl was the only player we had that could have potentially bridged these younger players in. Even though we should fire our whole development staff in my opinion. I already knew it was a rebuild regardless of what he was saying, i just hope he didn't just realize that now.
U live in California it never snows there , chill dude lol
I can not believe Vegas did it again. Fuck them.
Man i feel ur hurt & its so raw that it helps me as a newby to hockey to understand this particular deal. Its great that you are a Sharks fan thru thick & thin but that ur love of hockey lets u enjoy the sport for what it is; Fantastic!! Enjoy them beers mate & from the UK, good luck & cheers for ur insightful content.
Penguins fan here, I can sympathize here… We’re on our way down here to hangout with you SJ fans.. Sharks/Pens Stanley Cup rematch coming 2036
Canucks for the cup and Sharks for 1st overall pick, I'm down
I feel for you man!
hertl and a 1st rounder is a great trade. i know it doesnt feel like it rn but as a sens fan i have to tell you this is good.
This one is hard to stomach for sure. The salary retention and who we traded him to are the worst part. I like Edstrom but damn this sucks!
I cannot blame you in the very least. It is like the Rangers trading Brian Leetch to the Devils or Islanders.
I’m a Sens fan. Trust me, I know what suffering feels like. I hope the Panthers get revenge on the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup final (if it comes down to it, that is. Plus, I’d like to see one of the Tkachuk brothers get a title in my lifetime.
As a buffalo sabres fan I feel your pain brotha
Tf is the management bruh they’re as bad as the politicians running the city 🤦♂️
As an Edmonton that equally hates Vegas, I feel your raw emotion. Why does a GM do this..
I'm so sorry for your loss
This reminds me of a rebuild my favorite team underwent when I was younger, seeing the guys you think of as the face of the franchise traded away for picks/prospects was the worst. Especially when it’s one after another. It was worse than losing games, bad seasons, or promising playoff runs cut short. Under any circumstances, guys who aren't just guys who wear the uniform, but represent the identity of the team to you, as a fan, gone in exchange for assets who may not ever see the NHL, or if they did, may not be as good as what you lost, and if they are, haven’t yet earned that appreciation or love from you as a fan the departing player(s) earned, is the biggest challenge I faced as a fan. Personally, I’m not the most emotional about these things, but I have felt what you feel. Eventually there's an empty feeling, when that team you knew is all gone. For what it’s worth, even if the trade was “better” it might not have been any consolation. I sympathize. I think the rebuild is heading in the right direction, and time will tell, the Sharks could actually end up winning this trade. They may have won the Karlsson and Meier trades. Nothing so far would change the way it feels now, but you never know what might happen, and that’s why they play the games, as they say. I enjoy your content, hope there’s some excitement around the team for you to enjoy sooner rather than later.
Hard to stomach today. I feel your value comes from how you leverage that 6M freed from hertl the next few years if you can get cap dumps for contracts or facilitate more trades with that space
You get needed cap space, a young 6'3' 1st round pick center, a2025 1st, .
relax. if you get the # 1 pick you could have celebrini, smith, edstrom, and bystedt down the middle for years to come with cap relief plus maybe the penguins 1st this year plus two 2nds this year and thompson just acquired on the back end plus shakir muk coming soon. The future is bright it takes time to clean up a mess, and if you read between the lines hertl publicly said at the allstar break he was going to talk to grier about his future there so he wanted out and got his wish. Relax the future is bright.
It's sad but I'm hoping this turns out for us. It's going to hurt to see Hertl so frequently against us.
They gave them picks l o l
As a vegas fan this video made my heartbreak for you. I know things will turn around for the sharks in a positive way I just hope it’s soon for you❤
Dude I’m so sorry for you 😂
If we don’t get celebrini I’m going to riot. All the best to teenage mutant ninja Hertl.
Golden Knights is still the stupidest name in the NHL. And bonus points for the just-as-lame Silver Knights farm team. Fuck those gold-chrome shiny helmets, so stupid. Sorry Sharks-dude, rough year for you guys. The dead cap is gonna suck for the next 2 years but a lot of it gets off the books after that and your current prospect pool should be moving into the NHL to give you some good cheap ELCs. Hang in there.
Panthers fan here. It's our time to give the Rusty Knights some good retribution for last year. We'll knock them down and take the cup.
i honestly think this was a good trade. tommy is going to age out by the time the sharks are good again and we will only have to retain 1.5 for the next 6 years instead of paying the full 8.1. we get a good young piece and a pick for the future which the sharks desperately need. there are still role models in san jose with granlund, couture and ferraro. good trade from grier
Honestly that trade absolutely gutted me.
And personally, the trade after is what killed my heart completely, when they traded Kahkonen.
Hertl was the heart and soul of this team. And it’s painful to see him go but, I just hope he gets the cup he deserves man.
But the Kahkonen trade just felt…unnecessary. I absolutely love Kahkonen and while last year, lets be real, he was hot garbage. This year he really came into form and became absolutely cracked as a player. Hell, Kahkonen and Blackwood pretty much gave me the drive to want to get back into sports and started to learn how to skate.
I picked up my First ever jersey last night, I had Kahkonen’s name and number stitched onto it. I knew he was definitely getting traded, but I still wanted something to remember him by and I hoped it would be for a return that’s actually worthwhile.
I wore it to the ice, I showed it against the glads while he skated out for warm ups and mans looked totally dejected and checked out. I didn’t even think he saw.
I’m going on a tangent here but man I just feel so gutted. Hertl’s move opened the wound, and Kahkonen’s really not great trade was just a pile of salt poured into it.
I really hope Grier is knows what he’s cooking because right now the house is starting to smell like rotten fish and disappointment.
I wonder if this was pushed by Tomas's side wanting to play for a winner.
Alternatively, what better way to make sure to finish below Chicago in the standings than to get rid of your scorers…
Insanely brutal trade for the Sharks. 17% retention for six years and you deal him to a division rival AND kick in two thirds?! Sorry from am Avs fans sharks fans
I'm so sorry Nick. Watching this broke my heart for you and the true Sharks fans out there. I can't even imagine your fury and how upset ypu must be. Please keep strong bro and keep up your passion. These are the lows… highs will come
absolutley heart wrenching to see him go to Vegas, idk why they didnt look to move him in the Offseason for the best price
pain.
Loved hertl but he wasn't making the team any better. They retained what 1.25mil. Getting that cap off the books is what counts. Hertl is hurt pretty often too. I'm not mad about it
The Golden Knights still hasn't secured their wild card position yet. They still can miss the playoffs this season.
The Hertl trade is definitely a huge surprise, but Grier got rid of an aging assist that's injury proned. He'll be another Pacioretty type pickup that plays half the season if lucky.
The Sharks giving up 2 thirds to dump most of the salary hurts.
Sharks will rise again in a few years.
i feel for you man, gotta feel terrible i couldnt even imagine
