And all 3 games are played outdoors, same arena, back to back to back.

Too many Canadian teams involved for Betman
No-Material-23
What, the NHL isn’t smart ??
LeftySlides
And if Bettman wasn’t a douchebag…
Fardn_n_shiddn
Nobody outside of the original six markets really gives a fuck about the “Original Six”. Thinking this is a good marketing is more similar to the leagues current strategy than it is different.
It’s the exact same concept as the MLS “rivalry week” that gets almost universally mocked by fans
IsolationAutomation
Oh goddamn, y’all “Original Six” people are the vegans of hockey fans.
RickySpanish015
Dumb idea. Only 6 fanbases would care or like this
FinkBass420
Jesus Christ, these teams already think they’re the centre of the universe why would we want to feed into that
BBLouis8
Nobody outside those 6 markets would care. Just like nobody in the US likely cares about the annual Hockey Day in Canada where they have all the Canadian teams playing through the day and broadcast from a different city ever year.
Franii
If the NHL was smart they’d go back to eastern/western conference playoff brackets too
NotBanEvading2
Bruins Habs should be the matchup
GoalieFatigue
And get blacked out
NoDuck1754
Terrible, boring idea.
Look at how hard the outdoor games have fallen off in viewership because it has been the same teams playing in them.
Nobody outside the original 6 gives a fuck about the original 6

« A history lesson for this generation » is such a boomer line. You could use « a history lesson for this generation » to describe his headshot/profile pic, which is from about 20 years ago
Cottagewknds
Fantastic idea. They should rotate the teams playing every year as well
Vinny331
This is one of the best ideas you’ve ever seen?
You need to see more ideas.

If Steve carp was smart, which he is not, he’d realize how stupid of an idea this is as these teams already play each other every season and nobody celebrates it outside of each teams individual fanbase
_6siXty6_
If I’m not mistaken they did this once, but didn’t market it.
It was something like Toronto vs Montreal, Boston vs NYR, Chicago vs Red Wings
Then the other games were Calgary vs Edmonton, Vancouver vs Ottawa, and Winnipeg playing a random team. Every Canadian team played (mostly against each other) and every original 6 was against another original 6.
I could be misremembering, but It was definitely on a Hockey Day in Canada though.
Existing_Proof_562
Meh, I wouldn’t watch any of those games.
shutmethefuckup
I’m gonna assume OP is a Steve Carp burner account so I can tell Steve to shut the fuck up
LionBig1760
The concept of « original six » teams is just childish, and it doesn’t matter to anyone outside those fan bases. It doesn’t matter to the players, or the coaches, or the GMs. An original six team will ship a player off just as quickly as a non original six team if it means next year’s record will be better than the last.
Flyguyflyby
“History lesson for this generation”. What a joke.
OkieTrucker44
If they were smart they’d have ONE place to see EVERY game for EVERY team, and NO blackouts. This isn’t 1995, blackouts are absolutely ridiculous. The people that want to go to a game aren’t going to suddenly change their mind because they can stream the game at home. Dumbest thing ever. Just give fans a single place to watch every team and every game blackout free.
Oh also not an exclusive deal with an existing service. Make a damn NHL platform.
But they won’t. They just bitch that they want to reach more people… ok don’t make me have to have multiple streaming platforms to be able to watch games.
Or worse, I’m in Oklahoma but I can’t stream my team when they play Colorado because my internet service shows my location as Denver…
Just fix it and join 2024.

As I always say, the only fans who give a shit about the « original six » nonsense are fans of those six teams. Nobody else gives a crap. I’ve been a hockey fan for 45 years, playing the Wings or Hawks is absolutely meaningless except for the importance of any one game based on schedule.
Gullible_ManChild
That would turn me off the NHL altogether. I hate the original six mentality. Its not original, and when the league started it was not six teams, it was four. What you are trying to celebrate is the time period in which owners treated players like shit, paid them little, offered no benefits and kicked them to the curb when done with them – that’s what that era was all about. **It was a shitty era with shitty owners that kept the game small out of greed. It should not be celebrated.** Just because the Leafs had a 1 in 6 chance every season and was when they won most of their Cups, does not make that a glorious era for hockey – it wasn’t. Its the reason the players union exists – it was that bad.
mcbridedm
Really? I can’t imagine anyone but fans of those teams even care.
krazninetyfive
Completely disagree. Rivalries come and go over time. The leagues focus should be heavily promoting games between existing rivals by giving them the best time slots instead of trying to inorganically force rivalries between teams that aren’t rivals (and in some cases haven’t been rivals for decades) for the sake of placating a small minority of the fanbase that thinks the O6 teams
Look at the Detroit – Colorado rivalry from the late 90s to the mid 2000s, or the Toronto – Ottawa rivalry that existed for the same period. Those rivalries produced some of the best games of the past thirty years. How would it be better for the league if we’d had less games between those teams, or moved those games to worse times slots because we were trying to sell an inferior product simply because these teams have been around the longest?
Also fuck off with that boomer nonsense about teaching the younger generation about the history of those six teams. I think it’s important to celebrate the history of hockey by celebrating generational players who grew the game and watershed moments in the league long after they transpired, but this isn’t exclusive to the original six, nor should it be.
HurricanePK
Well the caveat is that “if the NHL was smart”, which they unfortunately aren’t.
Remember that day where they had all the league play on a single day like a NFL Sunday and fans loved how chaotic it was? Yeah that was a one time thing.
bearwhidrive
I’m all for an Original Six day if that’s the one day a year I have to listen stodgy old hockey men who hate growth talk about the Original Six and the rest of the year they have to acknowledge that it’s not been 1967 for over 50 years so get the fuck over it.
Cute-Rate8655
Why? There is literally nothing special about the original 6. What history lesson can be learned?
LGRW97980208
Why not just have those 3 matchups on a regular Saturday night with other games and then everyone’s happy doesn’t have to be exclusive to be memorable. You could still market it just fine.
Business_Buffalo_981
