I feel like every single series would be a toss up except maybe Philly
dbag3o1
instead of seeds the teams should be drawn randomly from a hat. Broadcast it live as a spectacle too. The Playoff Hat Drawing! Only thing is that the best record team gets home advantage. It’s only fair.
popculturetommy
Wild that if they still did the 1-8 seed, the only ones that would be accurate are the VAN/VGK and BOS/DET.
They’re so worried about these huge rivalries in the first round but 1-8 would heed NYR/PHI, Battle of Florida and DAL/EDM.
But I digress.

someone needs flair 🤔😉

As a Leafs fan: AHHHHHHHH!!!
HolyPizzaPie
NO NO GOD PLEASE NO
Reallyme77
Keep the divisions for schedule matching but a straight up 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 per conference would be better imho.
JKthePolishGhost
I really cannot decide if I’d want to see Philly in round 1. They are playing us like the Isles did over the last few years. We should rock them on paper but never seem to play well against them. Last nights game is a perfect example, we barely stole that game and I don’t think Philly was playing as well as they have been recently.
Remarkable_Cow_6061
Bruins vs. Patty Kane? Gimme
Possible_Chipmunk793
Florida-Leafs would be a blood bath 😫
Glittering-Cut840
Can we really say confidently “If the stanley cup playoffs started today”? I’d argue teams with a higher point percentage but ranked lower would like a chance to get the better seed
Rockterrace
Yes!! Get rid of wild cards and 1-4 make it in each division. Play your way through your division then Win your conference then play for the cup. The perfect setup
unlicensed_dentist
Add in the 3-2-1-0 point system and I wonder where we are?
russkiy1994
I’m confused at your angle
Shadow_Ridley
Do like the SPHL. 1 seed gets their choice of 5-8, then 2 gets who they want, 3 gets someone, and 4 is left with whoever remains. If a team feels more confident against one or another, give them the chance to prove it.
StonkersToDaMoon
A leafs fan definitely made this post. They know their soft team will get another first round exit playing against the panthers
mattcojo2
I don’t care about that. It’s fine the way it is.
jkman61494
Rangers need to abuse this wretched model and finish 2nd on purpose.
The irony is they want to protect rivalries but one of the beauties is the 1-8 model creates new ones.
See: Dallas/Edmonton back in the day.
ParagonProtagonist
See you all tomorrow when this is posted again for the 7th time in 7 days.

It’s fine
Winter-Structure-730
I’m not saying I’m a huge fan either way but if it changes I can almost guarantee I’ll find a post saying how much better the divisional matchups were. At the end of the day you gotta beat 4 teams in a best of 7 series. Doesn’t matter who you play
Lost2nite389
I would love Boston round 1 lmao
tdestito9
Oilers Kings AGAIN 🤮
99titan
Are we even supposed to be on this?
NatureIndoors
Did you forget Boston lost to Florida last year?
SageOfSix-
sharks fan here, can you guys explain why? i’m not arguing im just asking because i have no clue what’s going on in the rest of the league. i haven’t watched much of this season obviously
daxtaslapp
We dont want florida
Ecstatic-Buy-2907
Avs-Stars and Panthers-Leafs are banger 1st round matchups that should not be happening in the 1st round tbh
I already figured Bettman did this on purpose to decrease predictability of the playoffs in the 1st round, but it does seem unfair to teams with more competitive conferences
Fightfan16
Wing take Bruins in 6 games let’s go!
NY-Black-Dragon
I’d rather not see Tampa in the 1st round, but I guess it beats Florida, Carolina, or Boston.
4N_Immigrant
swiss format or gtfo
GreatWhiteNorthExtra
Change it to what?
SryYouAreNotSpecial
I mean, right now I kind of like it. Basically guarantees that the Avs or Stars are out round one and gets rid of the Leafs round one. Although that last one was pretty much a lock regardless of format.
Competitive-Strain-7
You know what I am so excited for the playoffs this year, there are going to be so many good series. I wish we had the 1v8 format though.
Dash_Rendar425
The top teams deserve to have an easy go first round (well as easy as they can get in the playoffs), because they’ve earned it.
Teams like Vegas and Vancouver shouldn’t be facing each other in the first round. What a joke.
Lady-Aurorah
Nooo lol, I like this match up for my Red Wings.
Nothing against the Bruins, but we have a winning record vs them this year. And I rather play them than Florida (I don’t like watching Tkachuk and Cousins haha. And how the Panthers are a pain after the whistles, but don’t get calls). Or NYR (mostly because Rempe lol).
Tiger5804
The playoff format is fine. The better team should win a strong majority of Bo7s, and the format allows every deserving team to get in, so it’s a fair format. Any team that loses in the first round should expect that they would’ve lost eventually no matter where they start in the bracket, and this format gives the best matchups from an entertainment perspective of all potential formats that accept all deserving playoff teams.
jcward1972
Be patient it will. The sports betting advertisers will want bracket play, it’s popular source of revenue that is stacked for the house. Look how popular bracket betting is with NCAA March madness.
wesley-osbourne
As much as I don’t wanna play Florida in round 1 (and that is *a lot*), these matchups seem pretty fresh and interesting?
LumbaJ4cked
I want to see Lyon carry Detroit in the playoffs so he can stare into more cameras
Anishinabeg
LA is having recurring nightmares at this point.
As a Wings fan and a Vancouver resident, I am not liking these matchups.
ogbloodghast
Right… guaranteed Winnipeg, Dallas, and Colorado all play each other by round 2. I didn’t realize how important winning the Central division is this season.
