Good game notes, Low Qual! I have some too 😜: 1. It was John Carlson's 1000th game, so the Caps really wanted to win for him, as well as for themselves. 2. Yes, on NHL Network last week, one of the analysts broke down the Caps' records (I feel like I can hear Mike Johnson's voice on this), and he said they win the close games and lose in total blowouts. (It might've been Mike Kelly instead of Mike Johnson, haha.) 3. Talk about losing the puck — what the hell happened to Lindgren when Pasta's shot mosied in at a snail's pace? Weird! 4. I feel like Monty put Brad on the Zacha-Pasta line to try to jump start his game (since Brad has been so ineffective for months now). It looks like Brad just dragged down the play and effectiveness of Pasta and Zacha's game. UGH.

Finally feeling up to the task of giving the team a proper review. Was really not feeling hockey for most of February and March but I'm finally back into the swing of things.
Forward lines:
Marchand – Zacha – Pastrnak: B-
This line just never works. It obviously won't do bad thanks to the star power of Pasta and Marchy but they get caved in way too often with offense and they always seem to struggle to get the puck out of their own end as well.
Heinen – Coyle – Frederic: A
Always happy to see Freddy back with Coyle, that Pairing is a match made in hockey heaven and I hope it never changes. I think the biggest surprise is Heino. He was seen as a good mid 6 signing back in November but has slowly proved he still has great 2nd line potential. He has outperformed every expection he had this season, more than likely saving his NHL career. I really hope he stays with the B's long term from here on out.
Debrusk – Geekie – Brazeau: B
Whilst seeing Jakey being bumped down to the 3rd line sucks I don't blame the team. He's still getting his chances in the offensive zone and his defense is still stellar but Heinen and Frederic is just playing better than him right now, so glad he's always first in the shootout though lol. Other than that this line was mostly quiet, which I'd much rather have over than being atrociously bad.
Beecher – Boqvist – Lauko: C+
Beecher has really shown since his call up why he was drafted 30th overall back in 2019. His defense is still one of the best on the team, and with his stint in the AHL it seems his transition game and offensive awareness has gotten extremely better. He's definitely a 3rd liner next year, and there's still a couple more years for him to develop into a potential 2nd line player. Boqvist's hot play from his call-up has definitely cooled off. He's still a solid bottom 6 player though, trustworthy in the dot and a good 200 foot player. Lauko hurts me personally. He had so much fire and good play at the start of the season but ever since that eye injury he's been nowhere close to what we saw at the start of the year. Hopefully next year gives him a better run but at this point he's just not ready to be played in the playoffs.
Defensive Lines:
Lindholm – McAvoy: B+
Lindholm's defensive play has been solid all year for the most part with some hiccups here and there which is to be expected. But playing with someone who can drive offense like McAvoy seems to be helping Lindholm's play as well. I love Carlo and think he is one of the best defensive defensemen in the league right now, but I cannot deny Hammer needed this change. McAvoy as always is one of the best Dmen in the league and no issues with his play.
Grzelcyk – Carlo: B
This was somewhat quiet line. Grzelcyk's play has progressively gotten better over the last 3 months. Whilst is nowhere near the offensive defensemen he's supposed to be, I still think he's in a good two way defender role the team currently needs. Carlo as stated earlier imo is one of the best Defensive defensemen in the league and he proves it every night with his play. My only concern going into the playoffs is his injury history, especially with concussions.
Shattenkirk – Peeke: B
Shattenkirk imo is probably the best 7th Dman the B's have had in a bit. His play far exceeds that of Zboril, Mitchell, Clifton and others in the past 2-3 years. He's a good veteran precence on that D-line and he shows up in the PP and SO when he needs to. Peeke has been an absolute blast to watch play. He seems to be meshing very very well in the Bruins system. I really hope he turns his career around here, would be nice to see him finally live up to his expectations a little bit from when he was drafted.
Swayman: B-
Definitely not his best performance but he hasn't had great performances since the all-star break. He has never been bad either but he isn't his usual confident and laid back self. My only guess is with getting nearer to the playoffs he's getting into his head about playing up to expectations and not letting the team down where it matters most.
Overall, a semi-sloppy but well earned win by the Black and Gold. Wonder how the lines shape up for the next game, who's in and out come the playoffs and who's gonna be first in rotation for the B's netfront. Go B's? GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO B'SSSSSSSS!!!!
People gave me a ton of shit for being optimistic about the Peeke trade and I love the idea of rubbing it in their faces because his CBJ analytics were a result of the team he played for, not his own contributions. He's a right handed Simon Benoit who doesn't fight as much – shit analytics from a shit team, yet turns out to be exactly what his new team needs. That's the beauty of defensive defensemen. If you don't hear his name much on the broadcast, he's likely doing his job pretty well. And Benoit has worked out so well in Toronto, especially compared to his time in Anaheim, that they just gave the guy a 3 year extension.

I just don't get why we split up our best line in Heinen Zacha Pasta. I get Marchand Coyle Debrusk wasn't doing much but I feel like there would have been better ways to fix that.

The penguins crack at end of skit was great!! Hell of a game last night!! Way Closer than i liked but a big gutsy win none the less!!?? Bruins with the huge kill in OT having to kill a 4 min penalty with just 4 min left in OT to force a shootout and then they pull off the win in the shootout!!! Amazing win! Can't wait til maroon gets into lineup!? I'm interested to see how he's guna do and how much he might help out!? If he stays healthy and can shake off the rust quickly he should be a big help to Bruins!? Another big tough talented guy who can score will be a big help!? Good game from Lindholm last night!? He finally got a goal for only his 2nd of season but b4 that he saved what was guna be a goal for Caps with a great play to whack puck off of goal line at last second!!? I wish Lindholm was scoring more this season, especially since he's on my fantasy team!!?? He's been good enough this season or at least for 2nd half of season anyways!? The 1st half of season wasn't too good cuz he only had 1 goal and wasn't getting assists often enough but the 2nd half of season he's been much better and has been getting on scoresheet on more of a consistent basis!? Pastas game winning goal in shootout was great!! I loved it cuz when it happened u could hear the crowd start to cheer cuz they thought goalie made save, which he kinda did, but he didn't get all of the puck and it squeaked thru and over the goal line!! It was great hearing Washington crowd start to cheer thinking he made the stop but then it slowly squeaks thru and over the line and their cheers turn to groans!!?? Loved it!!😂 lol
