Hate that this man is Putin’s toady, but watching him this excited and lifting the Cup was one of the best hockey memories.
Purely on reaction alone, he wanted that Cup more than anyone I had ever seen.
I can’t hear him, but I imagine a lot of grunting and growling from him with that grizzly beard and holey grin!

I love how the Stanley Cup is presented to the players first to skate around the ice with instead of the owners like with most other championship trophies. I remember in baseball one year, the World Series trophy was presented by, like the representative of Ohio GM dealerships to the team owner in the bowels of the stadium. It was awful.

As a Lightning fan, I was so pissed about how we got beaten badly by the Caps in ECF, so I didn’t really appreciate that moment at the time.
Now watching it, I am so happy Ovy got his moment with the Cup. That dude played so hard for so many years at the top of the game

I bought a Coke that day, one of the « share a bottle with » bottles w/o looking at it and it just happened to say Alexander on it. totally knew they were going to win it that night, then we saw titties. that was a cool day
Gives me goosebumps still, my Oilers were so bad I started cheering for the caps. Years and years of etheir the Rangers or Pens just stopping the caps round 1. Then when it finally all came together it was pretty cool actually.

Absolutely amazing. What makes it even better is how long he waited to get it. I wanted fleury to get his 4th cup that year, (3peat) but I was equally satisfied with ovechkin getting his first. Rivalries aside, I just respect the game of hockey no matter what jersey they’re wearing.
The only trophy ceremony worth watching. Every year after the super bowl them interviewing the owner who hasn’t done anything besides maybe open their wallet is so bizarre. Talk to the players on the field who were actually competing. Or the coach. Literally anyone else

I was a long suffering Caps fan, and you have no idea how much this makes me weep. Years and years of having dominant teams only to choke in the playoffs every year. The caps had unbelievable talent and win president’s trophies, but would go out in the first round, breaking their fans hearts every year.
Thats what made this so special. And Ovie led that.
I really, really don’t like Ovi. And even I felt/still feel so happy for him watching him in that moment.
