@Coyotes de l'Arizona

The real issue has ALWAYS been ownership. It’s like the ownership groups, over the history of the team, either play dumb or genuinely forget that arena leases or ownership comes with the team. It’s almost as if they buy a team just to add to their resume (specifically coyotes ownerships) and don’t have the liquid cash to pay employee/player salaries and arena leases/upkeep. I don’t know, this is pretty common with all sports, but it got a HUGE microscope over it, simply because the team was located “where hockey doesn’t belong.” It’s a tough pill to swallow but it seems like the Utah ownership is actually interested in becoming a gold standard franchise, maybe even in spite the naysayers on the location.
(not done with the video so someone might bring this up) but Utah has a ECHL team called the Grizzleys (2005-present) and their average attendance this year was around 6003 so I think NHL could to very well here
The NHL knows that the Coyotes' owner isn't going to meet the benchmarks to get an expansion team. It's just a way to avoid a lawsuit.
Wonder what the Coyotes organization has planned at Mullett Arena for the final home game (and last game period) of at least this version of the Coyotes existence in Arizona…? Maybe a free bumper sticker for every fan in attendance with the Coyotes logo that reads "See You in 2029".
Ryan Smith is barely a billionaire. Market is tiny in SLC. Good luck. There was a poor lack of Government involvement and an owner who failed miserably to get an arena built. Had nothing to do with fan support in Arizona, The overwhelming attitude in AZ is they do NOT want the present owner back should the NHL come back. He can not be trusted when he has sometimes failed to pay taxes to the city of Glendale and pay hotel bills wherever the Coyotes played. Go away Muerelo!
NHL SHOULD NEVER GO BACK TO ARIZONA. IT’S NOT A HOCKEY STATE.
The main thing I gathered from this is just how dreadful local news quality is in SLC.
That Idaho station is not Boise, it's Idaho Falls. It serves southeast Idaho, which is 1.5 to 3 hours away. Those of us who live here consider SLC as our backyard. A good place to see a game, then get out of the big city!
Utah Sting/Stingers 🐝 join the swarm, welcome to the hive, etc etc
What happens to the Tucson Roadrunners?
Or the "Carpetbaggers"?
The Coyotes could play in the Maverick Center which seats 12,000 for a few seasons while a new arena is built. It was built for Olympic hockey in 2002.
I really feel like at the very last second the Coyotes gets bought and saved by Matt Ishbia to stay in Phoenix and Ryan Miller will be awarded an expansion or relocation team for Salt Lake City.
Also worth mentioning on the Salt Lake City video: the MLB score ticker listed the Angels as "Anaheim" when Anaheim hasn't been in their name for about a decade now.
NO MERUELO!!! Hockey will not work with Alex Meruelo. He has pissed off the fanbase in Arizona to the point that I don't think it will work. There's ALOT OF UPSET PEOPLE HERE and the years of lies won't be forgotten!😢 IF HOCKEY IS TO WORK IN ARIZONA, Alex Meruelo MUST NOT BE THE OWNER!
There is NWSL in Utah too! so NHL will be the 4th pro sports team in town not the third. If you add minor league they'll be 5th.
As a former North Stars fan, I wish MN had been able to keep the name when Norm Green took the Stars to Dallas. Smart that AZ keeps name even if they are losing the team. Hopefully there will be NHL hockey in AZ again in a few years.
Have to admit the Yetis would be great for merchandising and mascot purposes. Kids to Seniors would probably love it, though the name itself isn't the greatest. Conversely, I think the Kraken is the best nickname in pro sports, followed by the Raptors (can't go wrong with enormous sea monsters and dinosaurs re. merchandising…..).
oh poor me losing my team yet they all fail to realize they did this to Winnipeg. No one had any feelings about that down in the desert. Sorry i don't feel for them. They even sold away their rights to the teams original name. lol
Doesn't Utah have blue laws still. Yeah players who like to party, drink and all sorts things are going to be in for a shock.
If the team formerly known as the Coyotes is going to play in Utah, there is only one name that fits the team, the Osmonds.
Seems like a forced sale by the NHL.
call them the Salt Puckers
The Jazz have been in Utah since 1979. Definitely more than "a couple of decades"
Just don't name them the GRIZZLIES because that's bad luck a name of a certain franchise disapeared of the radar in VANCOUVER….
Oh, and also I think Houston got screwed again as the owner of the Rockets says we are committed to bringing a NHL team to Houston. We got screwed. Again
The more i watch the reports from Utah are Cringe. They will need to get better and fast lol
Hopefully the deal ends when he fails to have shovels in the ground by date XYZ & new owner restarts the franchise in Glendale
Im so excited but i wish it Would have been an expansion team.
This was eastern Idaho news which is actually closer to Salt Lake than Boise.
I feel bad for all of the coyotes fans. But I'm so exited for a team to come to my state. And everyone else in Utah is too. Everyone I talk to about this are also really hyped. Just not as much as me.
Excellent video. I don't think I could have enjoyed this type of analysis when the Hartford Whalers moved to North Carolina. Coyote fans have been gutted by this move. Even if a new arena is built in Tempe, I don't believe it will be supported in the way the owner thinks it will. The fans are angry and will not forget this. The communities in which they have played will not forget the unpaid taxes, and all the other bridges this owner has burned.
incredulously and unfortunately for arizona hockey fans ,,billionaire pig and piece o garbage meruelo will still own the tucson roadrunners ugh ..we need to make a LOUD statement to him at coyotes last game and remaining roadrunner games. 5,000 banners should be given away at the mullett on wed. = MERUELO SUCKS ! let's yell it early and OFTEN ALL GAME !
Large Intestines, Fightin' Optometrists, Teamy McTeamFace.
In a "minor" hockey market like Phoenix, it should've been priority #1 to improve relations with the Suns ownership. Those teams should've been sharing a building. I realize the Suns arena isn't built for hockey, but they should've put in the work to make it happen.
15:48 Utah has Major League Rugby: Utah Warriors at Zion bank stadium
its possible that the utah media didn't mention too much on the district funding because they had ALREADY done reports on it
"The Jazz have been in Utah for a couple of decades"… C'mon, Brodie. The Jazz have been in Utah for longer than you've been alive!
Earlier in the video, you mentioned that you hadn't seen the news reel or video yet. But then before the Boise news began, you mimicked the deep voice before the video showed. So which one is it, have you or haven't you seen these beforehand. Obviously, you have seen them as you put together this video for YouTube. But why then say that you haven't seen the news reel before?
Where else could they play? They could play at the Maverik center, which is better suited for hockey, but Smith don't own the Maverick center and does own the Delta center. Not hard to understand why he wants hockey in the Delta Center until new stadium is done. As for the state fundings, the state is IMO very interested in funding the billion to the MLB group because it solves an issue that has for years plagued the side of Salt Lake that badly needs attention and sits in a state of nothingness. What to do with that area and what it would cost to revitalize the area gets solved with only an investment of a billion dollars. Sounds like a lot but not in comparison what it would cost to do something if they had to do it. Probably a no brainer investment for the state of Utah. A new home for the homeless?? LOL. As for the Arizona fans, can feel the pain of losing your team and hope that your people can eventually get their stadium situation settled, be ready to go when the green light for expansion happens and do it. This should give your ownership time to get in order for next round of expansion and feel you get it. I say good luck to Salt Lake as we will find out for real if Salt Lake is in fact a hockey town. I am personally more excited for MLB, but that is just me.
I feel awful for the Coyotes fans, but for the health of this franchise, a move to Salt Lake City, is by far the best move forward. Salt Lake City is a very nice city and there is a ton of support for hockey in this region and over the border in Wyoming. The players will enjoy the region, if they love the outdoors, and honestly they will love the fanbase. It's a beautiful region. It's great to see another team coming to the Rocky mountain region.
The reason the NHL is doing it is because the owner reportedly has said he wants to keep the team in Arizona but he has been commenting tax fraud on the state level that’s why they lost their arena in the first place. I’ve been following this from the start also the Utah Grizzlies are an ECHL team who play in West Valley City
Excellent!!!
they already have an ECHL team there, the Utah Grizzlies
Not much mentioned about the Grizzlies, but I guess we can assume they'll relocate. Keep the Roadrunners in Tucson and send the Grizzlies to Phoenix???
