I rather try and get Necas instead.

  2. MonkeySailor

Eh, I’m sure Conroy is interested in a lot of things but can’t see him paying for the price (Ducks would definitely ask for 9th+) for a player that most likely wouldn’t even want to be in Calgary longterm.

He doesn’t have any no move clauses so it’s not like he has a choice but I can’t imagine the guy dating a celebrity and living in LA would be thrilled to come play in Calgary. That said, I’m a lot higher on him than most and think he’d actually be a great first liner for us down the road. All depends on the price though.

Gut reaction is don’t do it but on second thought he does fit our recent acquisition template. Underperforming talented player… though he’s not Russian and his last name is easy to prenounce 🤷🏻‍♂️

One year league minimum deal, yeah we should be interested, anything other then that, no thanks

  6. dracity19

No thanks another American player that would probably want out

  7. LionManMan

No dirty, but Zegras solidify the Flames as the softest team in the league.

I mean if we can buy low with spare parts (not giving up 9th or top prospects) then sure, but that’s not happening…

As is the case of all the stories involving the Flames trading for a player, it really comes down to the cost.

Zegras is a very young player (23 years old) and has ~3 seasons where he played at an exceptionally high level for his age. He is a center, his contract is not bad for the performance he may be able to provide, and he will still be an RFA when his contract expires in 2 years.

His latest season has likely lowered his value, as has the rumors he wants out of Anaheim, and there are likely a lot of teams that probably doubt he can be a top player on a playoff team. This is all good for a buy-low candidate, but may indicate that he would be a player you’d want to flip in a few seasons.

With that said, I don’t think I would give up draft picks in the first or second round, players who are younger than 25, or prospects that project to be top 6 forwards, top 4 defense men, or a starting goalie to acquire him. As an example that is not meant to be realistic, trading something like Kuzmenko, [Solovyov](https://www.capfriendly.com/players/ilya-solovyov), and a 3rd round pick for Zegras would be acceptable; but the Flames can not be giving up important pieces for our future to acquire him.

I hope it isnt marky to nj and then use that pick and something for zegras I know I’ve said before hes a decent player but actually reading into him way to streaky and like everyone else said he’ll want out as soon as contract is up if we get someone should be someone who wants to play and stay in canada

  11. stinkybunger

If we can buy low on him im down

  12. imaybeacatIRl

I mean… Depends on the price, honestly. He’s got talent, and is young.

  13. undeletable-2

Zegras always seems greener on the other side.

  14. Dachawda

No, he seems like a beeyotch, no offence.

  15. jaicecreambar

I think the cost will end up being a lot lower than what is expected. Hard to even call him overrated anymore, the word is out.

Hope there’s no truth to this.

  16. EarthwormJake64

So long as it doesn’t involve the 9th OA. If the deal is built on 28th? Well, that’s something worth looking at. Trade 28th + whatever scraps for Zegras, trade Markstrom at 50% for 10th, walk out of the draft with Catton, Iginla, and Zegras.

    Deal.

  17. chefers1

If the price was cheap enough I guess why not, but not if it costs any significant assets or picks

  18. broke-collegekid

    Short answer: no

    Long answer: noooooooooooo

  19. Emotional_Carpet_168

    How about noooooooooo

From reading the comments, it appears the outlook for Zegras is low. If the Ducks think that, then this could be a good buy if he’s cheap. He can either remain underperforming or he can grow.

I don’t know much about the f*ckboy but seems like a buy low, sell high type of situation. He’s supposed to average 60pts a season. Would be a good replacement for Breadsticks, younger talent, and we finally have some C going on.

  21. I don’t think we need a hot dogger

  22. As always if it’s the right price, sure

  23. Captain_JT_Miller

I am confident the Ducks are putting these rumors out.

  24. Ducks need D we need C. Not sure if this is the target I would go after tho.

  25. Deep-Ad2155

That’s of minimal interest to me as a flames fan, the oilers have mcdavid and draisaitl…going to need higher level players to be somewhat competitive

  26. SwedishMeatwall

I’d love him depending on the cost. I seriously think he turns into a Jeremy Roenick level player.

  27. brokensword15

What the fuck are you guys saying, why would you NOT want this guy?

Young talented forward who had an off-year so is likely cheaper? This is literally 100% the Flames bread and butter, I genuinely don’t understand why you wouldn’t want him?

Now the price is probably still going to be too high, but if we can somehow land him without getting fleeced that is HUGE for us.

  28. macSmackin4225

They need someone with pure talent just to make the games fun to watch. Not many highlight reel plays from this past year.

  29. The_Ch0zen_1

Could be fun to watch during a rebuild, gotta provide some entertainment.

  30. timkoff2024

Zegra is a 1 trick pony no thanks

  31. robbhope

Man .. The rebuild just started and we’re already talking about it ending eh? Necas, Zegras, free agents. Can you guys just be patient for a couple years? Holy shit man.

  32. SomeJerkOddball

The pain train just keeps on chugging. Not a fan of him as a player.

I’d be ok with a buy-low sell high move though.
