2:22 More so, why didn't the NHL purchase the site instead of the capitals if there was such an objection & interest across all teams to close it down?
But if the Capitals' intentions to acquire the site was truly for Capfriendly's talent then that speaks rather poorly for the Caps' front office and how it has managed its own databses and analytics capabilities where it needs to outsource a function that should have already been in place for decades.
Why is no one mentioning Spotrac?
We've been through this before with Vegas buying the go to site when they joined the league, some enterprising indivdual will make a new go to website for this info. Brodie might want to see the hockey guys video on this his view is that the NHL doesn't want all the financial info easily viewable by fans.
Puckpedia
I’m a Caps fan & I have no idea what it is…
Edited: after watching video, this is good for the Caps , so this is great news for me…
When i saw this i thought this meantthey were buying it because they liked the domain. Capfriendly is a fitting domain for a fan centered cite for the caps.
The easiest thing to do would be to scrape the data with a python script, develop a site and then get it ready to go when this shuts down so you dont have to start frim scratch. Theres no way theyd be able to prove you didnt manually compile the data like they do. Hmmmmmm
Capfriendly is by far the best one though, this is awful
The Hockey Guy made a great and detailed video about the whole situation and why the NHL doesn't want to have this information available to the fanbase along with the other minutia that's involved with this whole situation. But this is definitely a huge blow to all NHL fans.
Gut feeling is the NHL wants this information locked down probably more from the players and their union than the fans. The Caps just happened to have space in their analytics department for these guys. My question though is… What's the point? Teams have to prove to their fans that they're willing to win and player acquisition and contract payments are the the easiest sign that a team is making an effort to put a winning product on the ice.
How does the NHL allow one of it's teams do this? I was never a fan of the Capitals but now I hope they never have a winning season.
Would this have happened if the name wasn't CapFriendly? How shitty is the Caps front office if they didn't already have better information internally?
The NHL doesn’t want fans knowing that certain teams cheat the cap, simple as that.
Caps are more CapUnfriendly by the sounds of it
What’s to stop anyone else from doing the same thing? I wouldn’t be surprised to see another similar website popping up.
Wouldn't this create a unfair advantage for the Capitals ?
When I was a kid, I never knew who made how much. I never thought it was important for salaries to be disclosed. In the other hand, there were 21 teams and no salary cap when I was a kid. Also, the Islanders were a powerhouse. I’ll never have those days back.
Build a new site.
Almost 100% of NHL fans crying about this are forgetting to realize tons of others teams tried this and it was available to purchase for literally all 31 other teams. Be mad all you want but this was very smart for the caps to do. If anything be mad at your own team for not doing more to try and win. Shoot look at the Caps AHL affiliate, reigning Calder cup chance going for their league best 13th cup as well as the back to back starting this Friday. Those same players made massive leaps in production from last year to this year and it’s only going to get better for their prospects in terms of experience.
I hear that the Panthers just purchased the Capitals and the Capitals no longer exist.
A bunch of people got paid for hard work and your mad because you wanted them to continue to do it for free?
Anything CapFriendly posts will be available on many other sites. It's not like they were sharing secret information. Other sites already exist, and more will pop up. Most ppl are likely mad because CapFriendly was a very good rendition of displaying this info and now it'll actually require work from lazy internet trolls to gather it.
What was the sale price?
I will not buy or support the Capitals management and ownership in any way from this date on because of my uses of cap friendly.
