In my opinion it was good for the caps to get pld so they could give ovi some talent to play with for the record
4 teams in 8 years for PLD lol
Imagine paying dumbass Tom WIlson and mediocre PLD 15M / year until 2031… thank God I'm not a Caps fan. I'd be furious.
LA can get a solid forward for that 3.25 they have room for without PLD, I was hoping he'd mesh well with the team as an LA fan, but he really felt like Kucherov at the all-star game, except it was playing like that in games that mattered. Especially the series against Edmonton.
And just as hot today. :O
Here in Edmonton, we have frost warnings…
For LA it just didn't work out with PLD getting out from under that $8.5 mil for the next 7 years is a benefit and if Kuemper doesn't work out a $2.5+ mil buyout over 4 years is way more palatable than whatever it would have been over 14 years
The trade is fine for both team LA gets a goalie that they needed and Wash gets PLD a center to replace Backstrom for good (with this acquisition it means hes done for good) instead of paying Kemper to be a backup goalie. Its a VERY good trade for both teams.
The Capitals are about to go into an apocalyptic hockey winter…
The Kings just flat out wanted him off their roster. Let’s be honest 8+Million a year to play on the fourth and a suspected locker room cancer. This is a great move for LA.
Dude you are such a dork
Yall gotta realize Kuemper is fucking awful, I think he got an eye injury and this was honestly the only realistic way to get rid of him. We're better off getting a potentially good and young player and bringing up Hunter Shepard who deserves NHL play, then keeping old ass, dog ass kuemper.
Also I think carberry can help get his shit together too.
PLD is a guy with a ton of upside but mental and lockerroom issues, with a caps franchise that is really good at getting guys to buy in. Kuemper is 5 mil and was a terrible fit for the capitals. Capitals also arent going to compete or need to be stingy with the cap. There no reason to not take the chance on PLD, and it really isn't even that risky.
Rob Blake needs to go. this is a panic move because he was scared of the NMC that he signed. Fire him asap Kings
Only thing I can imagine, is that WSH has another trade in the works, and was acting as a middle man for PLD? I really don't understand this move.
Kuemper was a bad signing, sure. Taking on 7 YEARS of this albatross contract though? What in the actual F………..???
How anyone would want PLD is beyond me.
It's a questionable move at best for the Caps. I could see it if they were an up and coming team with plenty of young talent, it might just be what finally inspired PLD and brought the best out of him…but that sure ain't the Caps. I dunno, maybe it's part of the plan to start racking up high draft pick and start the rebuild while Ovi chases his record in the meantime. Doesn't help PLD though, I foresee a buyout or him requesting a trade.
Caps might buy him out. I heard the money was the same to buy him out or What’s owed to Kuemper.
The cap hit is low to buy him out.
Why are people confused about this on the Caps side? They fucking blow and will blow for probably the next half a decade so they are probably gearing up to blow.
yo, metro center ice surface video footage.
31 degrees sounds cold as fuck lol
You could only be unsure about this trade for LA if you havent watched last season lol
worst player on the team.
We (Wpg) lost Patrick Laine because of Douchbois. Glad that useless floater didn't want to be here anymore.
SJS should be weaponizing cap space. Getting picks for cap space etc. They can't be as meh about cap space as this vid implies.
How does Maclellan have a job after the Mantha trade let alone this one.
The Caps dumped a mid-30s backup for a center in his mid-20s. The Caps have lost Backstrom and Kuz, so they're gambling that Dubois is going to break out when he's the #1 center on a team. Darcy had a big cap hit for the next 3 years, and I kind of like the trade for the Caps. I wouldn't be surprised if Dubois gets right back to where he was when he left Winnipeg or even surpass his career best for points. He always had someone above him( Scheifele, Kopitar and Byfield) who were getting the most offense zone starts, 3 on 3 time, and #1 PP time. Now he's going to a team with no true #1 center. His 3 on 3 time will go up, and I can see the calculated risk/reward of bringing him in. LA, on the other hand, just gave a bundle to get this guy and bailed on him after making a top 6 center into a 3rd liner. What they got back is pretty much a complete cap dump in Kuemper. Lindgren was pretty great for the Caps, so they had no use for Kumper and his big cap hit. Now they get a guy with size, who is 26 and has an opportunity to show everyone what he can do. Don't be surprised if Dubois scores 65 points next year.
that PLD trade is just bad all around, i dont get why every time lines up so sign that guy, from what i've seen he thinks too highly of himself and doesnt think any team thats signed him "doesnt have the tools for him to succeed" . Get rid of em
Why buy CapFriendly if you don't even know how to use it ?, painful month to be a Caps fan
A 15 team no trade clause is pretty insane
Perspective: Dubois is 25 years old. Last season he had 16 goals and 40 points in 82 games. Would you give a player like that a 7 year 59.5 million dollar contract?
It’s a great trade for LA. Rob Blake should have never gotten in this situation in the first place, but the way he got out of it is honestly incredible. Needed a goalie anyways, and Kuemper’s contract is only a few more years, so they’re not stuck with him. He has recent cup experience and has familiarity with LA organization. They could also just trade him for picks or something if he doesn’t meet expectations. They have very high potential goalie prospects Portillo and Slukynsky on the come up in the minors. They also made a lot of cap room for now AND the future.
As a cap fan I don't hate the trade at all. Caps had no 1st line center since Bäckström and Kuzy are gone. Idk about his work ethics but since Ovi is lazy too maybe they find some kind of weird chemistry. I bet PDL will have +70 point season or he is traded before Xmas. Also what's wrong with Wilson contract? He is the backbone of Caps.
I think this is more about giving Kuemper a chance to be a starter somewhere rather than a backup here, he's too good to be a backup, we (caps) just didn't have a good group in front of him. Caps are overdue for a rebuild but they can't do that until Ovi retires, whether he breaks the record or not. This is a team that's throwing everything at that record and nothing else.
as a kings fan, I could not be more happy about this news
I hope Wash picking up PLD was just a setup for another trade, maybe they'll send him to MTL.
Haha I still have hope for PLD. I am probably a clown though.
PLD just needs to be a travel influencer he makes money like one
I don't know why so many people glance over the fact in trading Markstrom now, the Flames have freed themselves from having to pay a massive 2.5M$ signing Bonus which de facto falls on the Devils when it kicks in this summer. Trading him after that would have equated to retaining 2.5M$, they only retain 1.875 in the end. Well done Mr Conroy.
(Plus that Kevin Bahl project, with Calgary's development savoir-faire on the aspects he precisely need to work on, could lead to some pretty good things down the line.)
PLDud's effort will never be questioned because there's nothing there to question.
ngl all this tells me is people dont know what the Caps specialties w/ player development are (older projects like Strome/Connelly), don't understand how little Kuemper did for us compared to a player who MIGHT turn it around and become a 1c (and he'll have as much TOI and as little pressure as he wants).
Also very clearly they don't understand why Wilson is signed to that contract, nor the like…..extremely obvious plan Washington is doing?
As a Pens fan, I approve of the Caps trade.
Soooo people just repeat the same sh** that 1 talking head at some point or another said. And it started with NHL network saying Kuemper is average at the position during the AVS cup run. But yet let’s give prowess to Markstrom, sure. Maybe look at their age, their stats, etc. etc. 1 is better than the other. And where did Kuemper’s VERY GOOD career really take off…. LA! Shocker….
For me LA won by a landslide. Solid number 1 that has already won a cup! LA are getting closer to being contenders! I could also be wrong, but thats my view on the matter!
The Rangers do have to pay something for getting rid of goodrow the waiver claim was the only way to get goodrow to sjs. A bigger more favourable trade for SJS is coming from New York
The fear of Ovi might get him to play up to his potential
worst contract in nhl is huberdeau
Maybe after Ovi yells at him for 6 months , he will play better 😂😂. I’m not holding my breath though
I was mad about Markstrom, I seriously wanted the Blackhawks to take a run at him to take the 1-B role away from Soderblom. Fuckin' Davidson.
kings fan here. After thinking we were going to be stuck with PLD for 8 years….man im relieved….I really dont know if Kuemper is the answer to our goal tending issues but at least PLD isnt our problem anymore
La somehow got out of their worst contract without retaining and upgraded their goaltending. This isnt fair
