you ..talk… so…/.. slow
This is only a good trade for the Kings if they use the cap space they acquired effectively.
Low key steal by the Caps IMO. PLD roll on the team is going to be 'get Ovi the puck' for the next two years. He should bounce back, and if he doesn't, well it is an unmovable contract on a team who should be attempting to bottom out in the next 2-3 years so his $8.5 helps the team hit the cap floor.
Dubois fits washingtons timeline no? Ovi will play 2-4 more years and after that they will probably rebuild 2-4 years. After that dubois contract is gone and they can reevaluate. Not like washington needs the cap space until that
Kings got fleeced
Ovi and PLD is the best defenses for forwards in the league big w for Washington
Can't believe Caps didn't force some retention on Kings for this. 8.5 mil for 7 years!? yes they need more centers and more scoring but I doubt that PLD will be worth his cap hit of 8.5 and it will not be movable due to length. They did good finding a way to offload Keumper, I was worried about that since trade deadline, but now they have even more cap space locked up for a longer term. At this point I am just struggling to think of any trade the Capitals have "won".
Caps fan here. I don't think casuals that didn't watch the caps this season realize how bad kuemper was this season. He was awful. Dubois has a chance to get good playing time in Washington due to their weak center depth, and I'd be happy if he put up 60 points again. I know he'll never live up to his contract, but it could still end up being a good trade for us.
Love the content bro
EVERYONE laughing at the caps Lol
The WSH GM will be cursed for this move for long long years…
That reference from TPB makes me love you even more! ❤️
I was like you when I saw the tweet. I thought someone hacked Lebrun's account 😂😂😂
As a caps fan i think Washington gave up nothing for a lottery ticket. Kuemper was great initially but now hes a 5m backup and had negative value. Dubois at worst is a bad contract but i think his floor is a good 3C. Dubois though has a lot of untapped potential and i think which with carbery behind the bench it could make for a less stressful environment for him. If dubois becomes a 60 point center for us on average we robbed LA and if he ever hits 80 we won the lottery. The contract is a lot but i view as 3x at 3m (kuemper was 5) and then 4×8. Those first 3 seasons he'll be better value wise than if we kept kuemper. Its about those back 4 years. We should be going into a full rebuild by then though and if not that means hes a big reason why. In those back 4 years at least we'll have an entertaining player to watch even if hes worse by then.
Caps are absolutely banking on PLD just being in a bad situation and needing a refresh to unlock his potential.
Its a massive risk with little chance of paying off, but if he somehow thrives with Ovechkin next years video is going to be about how great a steal this was.
Can we talk about how much the jets fleeced the kings looking back
Washington obviously still trying to compete in a weak metro. Classic buy low on an upgrade at 1c for them, this isn’t some guy on the wrong side of 30. I don’t hate the move for WSH
How funny would it be if PLD finally turned into a franchise player with the caps
rangers fan here… first pouty ass Pierre destroys the kings, now can he stop ovi from breaking the goals record? love it, can't believe anyone wanted him, most pitiful/pathetic player in the league lmaoooooo
Capitals fan here. I honestly think this trade can be a win-win. We found our goalie of the future so it made sense to move on from Darcy. LA gets what they need in a seasoned and skilled goalie as well. I really liked him though and I wish him well in LA! He was a class act 🤌🏻 when it comes to PLD, I think that we just have to keep him happy and what would make someone happy? Putting him on the line with the greatest (albeit aging) greatest goal scorer of all time. This is also pretty much PLD’s last shot. If he doesn’t make it work in Washington he will never get a good opportunity ever again. He MUST play inspired hockey and give forth effort. If he doesn’t, no one will want him. So I think the caps will get a guy that will play with a little fire under him and maybe see something we haven’t out of PLD! At least I’m hopeful of that. So, with that being said, it should work out for both sides. It at least fills the needs for LA and DC.
How long do you think until he tries to force his way out of Washington if they struggle to make the playoffs. 😂
I feel like people are over-stating how bad Kuemper is. He had a bad year last year but prior to that he's been pretty damn solid. LA also plays a system that is very goaltender friendly. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Kuemper bounce back with the Kings and be a solid 1A/1B goaltender, which is exactly what they need. And the thing is, even if Kuemper is a total bust with the Kings he only has a couple years left on his deal – The Kings could ship him off to a rebuilding team after next season and retain salary for the last 2 years of his contract if needed and that really wouldn't be the end of the world. Kings get rid of PLD while addressing their need for goaltending – Pretty happy as a Kings fan
Agree LA is the big winner on this trade. DK has every possibility of bouncing back. PLD? I'll believe it when I see it.
Kuemper: Stinks
Dubois: Stinks
Even trade.
The only way this makes sense is if the caps have Dubois get Ovie to 895 this coming season
as a caps fan i like it
Honestly don’t hate it too much for the caps. The contract is steep for PLD but he’s still young at 25 and should get top 6 minutes slotting in as the 1C of 2C behind Strome for the Caps. Could be a good get if he hits that untapped ceiling especially for a team heading for a rebuild, but this could also backfire tremendously. Great vid as always!
Is this PLD’s last chance? So much potential, only 25, so messed up. He will rebound offensively, but is not a #1 center yet.
Caps fan from germany here 🙂
I think it's a good trade. The caps don't need Kuemper anymore with Lindgren ans Sheppard (hopefully) in net next season. But they needed someone to take a (backup-) goalie with his cap-hit, so they need to take a risk and gamble on Dubois. We will see how he will fit in, cause the Caps lineup changed a lot (and for good) at the end of the season. You have many young promising players (Lapierre, McMichael, Miroshnichenko, Iorio etc) and i guess Dubois could fit in very well, if he finds his motivation. Even if he won't live up to his contract, the caps will be in a more or less rebuild the next years, where his cap won't hurt that much.
In my opinion it's a good trade with many chances. Maybe we got our 1st or 2nd line center for a good couple of years, maybe not. For me, i'm thrilled to see what the caps look like and how they'll play next season.
Go Caps go!
bad news. as a ducks fab i wanted la to be stuck with this bum for years
I called the PLD trade terrible in one of your Ask Me Anything vids before the season (I was WalkerTheLAFan), and I was correct.
As a caps fan, I’m glad we get rid of Kuemper, with that said, we grabbed the wrong guy
Caps fan here. Getting rid of half effort Kuzy just to jump on quarter effort PLD. Perhaps PLD will grow up and use his potential but 8,5m a year is already in the bank. On the bright side the Darcy contract needed to be moved.
Rob blake need to be fired, that no joke. With everything he gave to get Dubois just to cap dump him is crazy.
