The thing that concerns me is 1. Can Jake all the pressure to perform. Seen it to many times in sports. Some players can’t handle that. Unfortunately there will be fans that will boo. If we get off to a slow start again or the power play isn’t doing good. There will be booing and chanting “Stamkos”. Hope not but we’ll see. I believe they should have found away to keep stamkos. Get rid of Sherry. Perbix. What ever.
If Tampa does not make the playoffs, then Brisebois must leave!
Our roster :
Guenzel-Point-Kucherov
Paul-Cirelli-Hagel
Sheary-Eyssimont-Chaffee
Girgensons-Glendenning-Gonsalves (geekee)
Hedman-Raddysh
McDonagh-Cernak
Moser-Perbix
Vasilevskiy, Johansson
Overpaid contracts :
Cernak 5,2M x 7
McDonagh 6,75M х 2 (36 yo)
Cirelli 6,25M х 7
Cap goes up 8M in the next 2 years, those will look like bargains, we also have Hedman and Kucherov who have been playing on the best value contract the league has ever seen. As long as the cap rises this team will be better and better in value. Also JBB got us out of the absolute cap hell in 22 in just 2 years still with a competitive group, I mean look at the avs and how bad of a shape they're in cap wise
Shameful lightning.
Bubble championship.
At least he signed in the west
Might be one of the only one to say this but Brisebois did a great move there. Let's face it, we were clearly moving away from a Cup contender status. We were twenty in 5 vs 5 scoring last year, the only thing that kept us above the playoff line, was the PP. Stamkos scored 40 goals and did 19 on the PP, so that means he was 20 goals scorer at 5 vs 5 and it made us easy to kill in playoffs. Kill the PP, kill the Lightning. Kucherov fed him a lot of these goals also. He played well with us, he was the leader of this team and brought us great memories but the money he asked was the money needed to make the retool. But looking forward, Detroit is younger getting more mature and were one point away from playoffs while we on the other end were becoming what the Pens and Caps have been for the last 3 years if we didn't make any changes and giving Stamkos 8 millions for a four year contract at 34 seems very risky and we needed to diversify the team. The Geekie and Moser acquisition are making the team younger while not giving away playoff hopes. Guentzel will complement Point and Kuch beautifully and is the same age not 5 years older which maintains our window open. I think these trades made us weaker for next year but it's the kind of tendency we needed to take now if we want to avoid a long lasting period of total rebuild starting in three years that's going to last forever… Tough move, didn't like how it was done, but it had to be done and I'm grateful JBB did it. Sergachev move was genius. Arizona said Geekie was NHL ready, I can't wait to see what he does, it seems like forever since the Lightning developed a great prospect. Really looking forward for him to play. It'd be interesting to see him in the lineup.
Hedman 8M х 4
Fire JB… this clown ended the Stamkos era way too early and lost our team’s identity. That is the toughest part of this all… it’s not all the goals stammer scores, or him being the captain and him being a fall of famer. It’s that Stammer is the main piece that gives the bolts a true identity and now we’ve lost that. Geutzel IMO is a strange fit, I don’t see him being the guy we needed to pursue at all. We needed a right hand shot guy and pretty much brought in another Hagel.
I think Stamkos is acting like a victim as well, very unprofessional. I'm sick and tired if all these people bashing the organization and Briesbois. Excited for all new players and hopefully the rest of team welcomes them
like most time I disagree the only reason i listen is I had to move away and any news was welcome I will no longer listen
Not to mention we traded away one of the game's best middle-aged dmen in Sergachev…. All to sign Guetzel lol SMH.. He was the eventual replacement for Hedman. Now we have no young dman that can take over and be our #1 guy in the next year or so. McDonagh and Hedman will both be 35-37 respectively in two years time. Moser is not gonna be a #1, and we have no good D prospects in Syracuse. Silly moves are hurting us.
😢
Mark Giordano , previously of the Toronto Maple leaf's, at the end of his career, took a team friendly contract at of 1 million a year to finish out his career at the team of his dreams , the Maple Leaf's. He had previously made a great deal more money per year with the Calgary Flames ( I think Calgary, not sure). After you have established yourself as a premier player, you make very good money, much more than the depth players. Stamkos had made 8 million a year for 8 years and an substantial amount before that so, it is difficult to know exactly what he has in the bank ( essentially his net worth) After you have 40 million plus ( that is an conservative estimate) to live on, with interest rates high for large deposits, you can easily live an exceptional entire life on that amount of money without doing a thing or very little unless you piss it away. The need to max out your career for a few million more at the cost of giving up you preferred team and town is a decision that he made for some reason. We do not know what JBB offered him. With many other players making their deserved money now, Stamkos has to know that with cap, JBB had a limited budget to work with. /Stankos had to realize that after he has made his money, he needs to accept a serious discount as Jbb doesn't have the cap room. Stamkos had plenty of money because of the Lightning giving him a generous contract for 8 years. Now would have been the time to pay it back and continue to live here instead of disrupting you family, wife, etc with a move to a different team. I am sure JBB offered him something? We will never know and all we will hear is speculation, but to me, he should have played her for very little as it would allow the team to afford better players to compete. In my opinion, he sacrificed his career here as a Bolt, his well being of his family and now his kids by uprooting them to a new location. He did this at the cost of his ego. My take
I feel like other moves could have been made to keep Stammer and bring in Guentzel. The McDonagh is a head scratcher for me. JBB doesn't wanna pay 34 year old Stammer 5M x 5 or 6 but is happy bringing in a 36 Y.O McD at 6.7 x 2? Looking at what Washington had to pay for Chychrun, I feel Tampa could have matched that offer while saving cap and getting younger.
luckily none of the bellyaching pylons are TBL owner jeff vinik, who famously appoints highly competent people and lets them do their jobs to the best of their abilities. most teams in the NHL would LOVE to have JBB at the GM.
GM's can get and have gotten fired for too much loyalty. VGK (as an example) proved that a cutthroat, not-giving-a-fu*k attitude can win you a cup. the salary cap (circa 2005) put an end to the era of "thank you for your service" contracts.
giving those legacy deals might make casual fans feel warm and fuzzy inside, but it doesn't help the team win, either short-term or long-term. at the end of the day JBB's job is to keep the TBL moving, not to keep players that want to be here, at the expense of the overall best interests of the team.
Lightning need to go after, Tarasenko.. Or what was the point paying Guentzal all that money.. Tarasenko, a legit 2nd Line Wing and 2nd Line of Power Play. Then, it would make your 3rd and 4th Forward Line better. By bumping 1 person down. (Obviously)
Trade Sheary to Anaheim and sign Sprong or Roslovic! Wtf?
Nashville still won’t win the cup, all money grab
Lets goooo danky never seen this many comments before
