Just like with the other original six teams there were a lot of good choices for the Canadiens and I couldn’t fit all of them into the post. Lmk what you think the biggest omissions were from this one.
I’ve still got my signed Tugnutt Jersey. Ottawa Senators legend.

That 2017-18 season was painful
Joe_Shabbadoo
I remember watching a preseason game the year Tanguay played for the Habs, and they asked him how it felt, growing up in Quebec and playing for Montreal. His response started with « Well, I was a Nordiques fan, » and I didn’t hear anything else because I was laughing too hard.
Stebenhilda
Shame a guy name Francios from Quebec only played one game for the Habs
Bahamas_is_relevant
Brilliant choice for Staal’s pic.
Also, for Ramage:
> show up
> play 21 total games
> win Cup
> leave
> refuse to elaborate
Power move.
EmmyHomewrecker
That’s all the games Vanek played? I genuinely almost don’t believe it.

Kovi in montreal was electric

TIL Briere played for the Habs

HABS LEGEND ANDY MOOG

I always remember Kaberle playing here way longer than that.
Also Kovalchuks time was short but it put a giant smile on my face, especially his first goal

I’m actually surprised Doug Gilmour isn’t on this list. I absolutely LOVED Gilmour on the Habs, but it was still really weird seeing him in a Habs uniform at first.
BaganLeleo
I remember being so hyped when the Habs got Vanek for next to nothing. The first major deadline day trade I remember the Habs making
Vokoun had one of the worst stat lines in history: 1 game (20 minutes), .714 save percentage, and a 12.00 GAA. He was back down in the AHL almost immediately after that partial game, and didn’t get a recall the next season either.
When Nashville took him in the expansion draft, I figured they were nuts for taking him instead of Sebastien Bordeleau – they acquired Bordeleau for « future considerations », and drafted Vokoun. I thought it would have made way more sense to just take Bordeleau and not have to take on a complete dud like Vokoun.
Shows what I know.

Esposito is the real weird one on that list. It feels very wrong.

I’m trying to figure out why I’ve always associated Niemi with Montreal considering he played so little for them.
The_Dale_Hunters
If I’m not mistaken, Vokoun and Jose Theodore were a tandem in Fredericton at one point.
eriverside
Staal might have been 21 regular season games, but he was very much key to getting to round 4 of the playoffs – he played 21 playoff games for the Habs as well.
Alternative-Cry3369
Was Mark Recchi a forgotten Hab? If not Arm dog.
MikeFu84
Some of these I don’t find odd. Like Vokun and Conroy. They were both drafter by the Habs and played for the baby Habs in Fredericton. I remember watching both of them play in the 90’s when the team was still in town.
realdeal411
Vokoun was only 20 minutes of that one game too. Got a callup vs the Flyers in the era we loved to score vs Montreal. Vokoun allowed 4 in the first and never played for the Habs again and was exposed in the expansion draft

I was expecting Mariusz Czerkawki and Rod Langway

John Scott!

It’s funny to see Niemi here. I forgot how short and how long ago his time with the Habs was. When my wife and I visited the Bell Centre on holidays in 2022 they had a game used Niemi stick still for sale in the gift shop. I can’t believe it had been sitting there for at least 3 years already.

A+ choice for the Staal picture!
Pouletchien
Tyler Toffoli only played 89 games for Montréal and trading him away still hurt to this day.
Menatorius
I always thought Rob Ramage played a lot more games with the Habs. I guess because of the cup win I see his name a lot more than I would otherwise.
Also, Andy Moog always felt WRONG. He was the Habs killer!

Andrew Hammond (4 games, 2021-22)
I remember Daniel Briere had a burger named after him at McDonald’s
Where is the Hamburglar? He played 4 games for the Habs
Okay but the games Kovalchuk played for Montreal were majestic.
Fun fact: Brière in Montreal was the first NHL player ever to have a diacritic on his jersey.
