Memes aside it’s Messier by a long shot. The stupid hand-written contract, the lack of any effort or engagement on the ice, the gong show behind the scenes… it’s tough if not impossible to top in the modern NHL. Who cares what he did before or after, he was a terrible top-6 forward for the Canucks.

I know I will get downvotes, but if were serious about this and not meme-ing Messier isn’t even close to the worst forward.
Messier era was a disaster, but he finished top 2 in scoring by points per game every year he was here. He was one of our best performing forwards on a bad team. Guys like Loui who came caught the big contract and didn’t even have one good season are much more applicable here.

As much as I loved Ben Hutton, the guy was a minus sign on skates. That said I don’t think he deserves to be the worst Canuck mainly because he was a good dude.

Unpopular fact: it’s not Messier. Overrated, overhyped? Yes at first. But he’s not the worst person talent-wise (Top Sixtito or Jason Smegma), asshole-wise (Virtanen, Leipsic), or contract-wise (Eriksson, OEL).
If « worst » is defined as most destructive, you absolutely have to go with Messier. No other player made the Canucks more worse after joining.
