Devils regular season challenge, hard mode: win 3 games in a row.

Impossible mode: do it on home ice.

  2. valdrinemini

That first period sealed our fate :/

  3. chaos0xomega

Good news: we didn’t give up the empty net

Bad news: were still making rookie and backups goaltenders look elite and playing like crap on home ice

  4. Mr7three2

We looked lazy on 3 of the 4 goals.

  5. xxfatpigxx

Real ones know that as soon as a rookie goalie starting his first nhl game was happening this was an automatic Devils L.

But man the whole team felt a step behind the whole night. A ton of Almost plays and near misses can’t happen when you put yourself in a 3-0 hole early.

O well, on to Washington on Saturday 🫡

  6. Hysteria19

Jet lagged? Can’t imagine playing in Prague five days ago helped this game much. It’s okay, we’ll get em back!

  7. Whole team looked sloppy, but Jack was a complete nonfactor tonight.

  8. Apaman94

It’s still early, let just blame Rogalski for now

  9. nostradamefrus

Oh hey we got the normal game/postgame thread layout back

That was disgusting. Team needs to know how to play against more than bottom feeders

  10. blade430

Jack spent a little too much time this summer working on his handicap. You can’t even excuse the shoulder injury anymore, that was just very poor decision making with all those turnovers

  11. Tmattfie30

Bois better go fucking off in the next game this was weak. Just sloppy and uninspired for half the game

  12. tentaclesinabsentia

Does Dougie know he doesn’t need to hold the puck for three seconds at a time?

Excited for Pesce to join the lineup.

That game certainly looked like a team who had been sitting for a week and was feeling the rust. Everything just a tad off tonight, but between the sloppy there were elements which looked good. Got a busy schedule coming up which I think is good. They had an abbreviated training camp so just need to get those reps in and just play.

  14. kinda figured toronto was gonna come out swinging after getting shutout by montreal. need a better start but oh well its a long season

  15. granweep

Just a reminder Keefe isn’t ruff, he’ll make adjustments and hold people accountable … I hope.

  16. jerseygunz

As a person who was there, they did not come to play that first period. Def looked better the rest of the game, but that first was brutal and that 4th goal was bullshit (on our part) I’ll give them this one (though I’d like my 80 bux back) but they better show up Saturday

  17. TheNightRain68

Didn’t watch the whole game but a shitty 1st period did us in. Not the end of the world. Still 2-1-0 and first in the league. Gonna be a wonky start to the season for a lot of teams. Cup favorite Oilers got shutout 6-0 against the Jets, Canucks blew a 4-1 lead in OT, Knights Avs was a shootout, Pens played like trash too. Just gotta find our rhythm.

  18. Glum-Professional925

How do we always manage to look like a lottery team for home openers?

  19. Worth_Average_9652

Let’s not start the doom train yet, I’ll take the PK being sexual and timo and jespers performances. Onto Saturday

  20. jessejames182

Was a nice tribute to Lindy to come out slow and give up such a huge lead in the first. Please never do it again.

  21. klitchell

Never going to win all 82. This one felt like a setup for a loss. Leafs shut out in their opener and we’re jet lagged. Need to have a real bounce back on Saturday

  22. himynameissteve93

I hate that I paid for this

  23. PumpkinFar7612

Somebody just no look cross ice backhand sauced a puck to a leaf

  24. beachy927

I knew this game was trouble when I saw Toronto got shut out last night. I knew they would come in wanting this badly. Positives : good PK and no empty net goal.
Team was awful in the first and that cost them. Why were they so bad? I’m going to chalk this one up to nerves. Home opener, new coach against former team, new faces. One thing that bugs me is this team has trouble building momentum off of big emotional wins (example stadium series win last year). I really hope they change that this season (obviously after this stinker). My feelings about this team before the Prague games were that they would have an up and down October due to new coach/system/new players/players coming off injuries. I admit I let those Prague wins get me thinking they were unbeatable but I don’t think anyone should be surprised at a slowish start. Also, people are being harsh on Jack. Maybe give him a few more games before calling for his head.

Well, we were bound to lose a game at some point:
    * tough to lose against the Leafs because I hate Toronto and wanted to win this for Chief Keefe
    * tough games out of a lot of players tonight some really rough performances
    * I will say our penalty kill is truly something else. nice to know we can count on that at least
    * our PP on the other hand. Let’s uh not discuss that.
    * we also didn’t let in an empty net goal!
    * the missed calls throughout the game were frustrating
    * that first period really buried us because I thought for the second and third we were playing pretty evenly with Toronto
    * The New Jersey Devils are 2-1-0 when I attend a game this season
    * I’m not going to put too much into this loss given that it was basically the perfect storm of narratives, but I will definitely be on the lookout for improvements from today on Saturday.
    * can’t really comment on Markys performance tonight since it seemed like there were breakdowns all over the place
    * simple things that we know these boys know how to do were just not clicking, hoping that’s just a fluke and not indicative of any major issues
    * I’m gonna say let’s not panic yet alright folks.
    * we weren’t gonna win them all it just sucks we lost like we did because it all came down to one period
    * thought Dawson had a great game tho

There’s gonna be growing pains, there’s gonna be rust, as long as it doesn’t become a sustained issue, we should be okay.

  26. busterdad

Hot take: the kids with the flags in the pre game ceremony wore them out with their trap formation.

  27. Anonycron

Very interested to see how Keefe handles Jack over the course of this season.

  28. FARTING_1N_REVERSE

That was a rough one to attend, hopefully a fluke but let’s see as the season progresses

Edit: As others have mentioned, our PK was absolutely elite, to the extent that if we played short handed we might’ve won actually.

  29. Mad_Burrito_Slinger

Everyone seemed a step or two off. Also a LOT of bad passes. Need to tighten that up a bit.

  30. Chico-_-

annoying, but its one loss after coming home from Europe, if you look into the stats teams have brutal records the game after coming home from that shit. On to the next one, burn the tape.

  31. PicNov91

Alot of missed passes tn. Looks like a team still figuring out the system. It’ll come.
