Well the real difference is when they play against teams like the kings and canucks in the playoffs they have things a lot easier then every other team in the playoffs.

I think the canucks win the core 4 contest, hughes for 3 mill less than bouchards projection, miller is an absolute steal for 9, petey is still significantly cheaper than a mathews or mcdavid and debrusk or boeser (whoever you believe is number 4) are still below 6 million in cost, if canada has a shot its on the west coast

Mcdrai get to stat pad against ahl level teams in the weenie hut west and have only played 1 vezina winning tender in their playoff careers leafs have played a vezina goalie in every single playoff series of their careers oilers core 4 is unstoppable on the powerplay but none of them backcheck and drai has multiple seasons of leading the league in giveaways and McDavid is often top 8 for giveaways as well while neither one is on the pk inflated pp stats against garbage teams

Doesn't McDavid have 2 more years on his contract? Oilers would need to sign an extension next year so what is he going to ask for since his numbers are better than Draisaitl in career points at 982 vs 850? Is he going to retire after his contract is up or want a trade? Can the Oilers afford him?
In addition to the Maple Leafs example, the way the Panthers shut down McDavid and Draisaitl for most of the games in the Finals (yes, I know Draisaitl was injured) is a demonstration of why putting half your salary in a handful of players isn't going to get you the Cup. Depth is the key.

There is no "might be better", even with nurse way underperformed his share. Oiler duo actually improve numbers in the playoffs from thier already high production. Leafs all drop off. Playoffs are a major part of earning your keep.
