Exactly, why would Ducks do this without retainage? 9 mil for 4th rounder is nowhere close to proper compensation.
This makes little sense. Accept that he is signed for one more year. The Rangers get the cap space.

Getting Anaheim to take his full salary with no retention is a great deal. Typically these salary dumps require draft pick sweeteners, remember the Leafs having to send a 1st to Carolina to dump Marleau on them? That 1st turned into Seth Jarvis, good deal for the Canes.
As a Ranger fan I love it.
