Great job ! My life story in fact, I had Islanders season tickets in 91-93. I split them with a roller hockey coach in College Point, Queens who asked me to. I signed the petition against the logo change (8:30) sitting somewhere in the 300 level seats at Nassau Coliseum, after sitting in the last row of MSG's blue seats for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in 1994 wearing a New York Islanders original logo starter jacket. Thank you for including video of the roller blading players (4:20), the historical accuaracy of this video, the next stop for those kids on skates at this time was usually a Sega Gensis / Super Nintendo console that offered 4-way play on NHL 94. True hockey Nirvana, if you were 19 years old like I was. The most loyal of New York Islanders fans sat in section 329 at the Nassau Coliseum for home games. A lot of those guys are from Staten Island. Post dynasty, a good number of New York Islanders fans came from the surrounding areas of Queens, the boros, etc. simply because they did not want to root for the Rangers, or admired the great players and teams of the New York Islanders dynasty. Thank you for a great video, and keep in mind (Rangers Fans) the New York Islanders were at one time the greatest franchise in pro sports, and the envy of the sports world. The last North American sports franchise to win 4 consecutive championships.
The Burger King LA Kings Jersey were pretty BAD too
Bro, Gretzky never won a cup with the Rangers. Didn’t start playing here until 1996-97.
The idea of NILES just annoyed us ISLES fans of the dynasty era. He was just a cheap gimmick, we wanted a return to glory not garbage marketing strategies.
Cool videos man.
I don't consider them a franchise after logo. If they win the cap, I'll consider it a lockout year. They don't exist
The light house patch imo should’ve been the primary logo but only as a third jersey
Millbury really Sabotaged them!
If it's so bad, why did they bring it back a few years ago as a third jersey option?
Just a Gorton's fisherman!
Changing logo is a big step. It doesn't look too bad to be honest, but having it as your primary symbol is a big deal to many fans
Cool video we got a bunch of free islander fishermen logo stuff in 1998 in Lowell mass at the Lowell lock monster games the NYI were there affiliate they even used the same style of the jersey look up 1998 Lowell lock monsters hockey jersey you will see what I mean it seems like they just took that design. Change the logo to the lock monsters and just kept everything else the same and change the colors 😆 but I will say they had killer road jerseys the black and purple actually went well together cool video bud 👍
As a Rangers fan, we chanted. We want fish sticks!
That Islander logo was very on brand for the 90s. But it was fitting they chose that logo due to the weirdness surrounding Spano. To this day he contends he was a few days away from pulling it off. Oh well.
Looks fine to me. People just get superstitious and blame bad times on new things.
I was at a save the islanders coalition (STIC) meeting – this was TOUGH times
Okay let’s be real, the Islanders have been bad for a long time and it sure as hell isn’t because of some logo. People up in the New England area are just whinny pansies. Looking at you Boston, Pittsburgh and Philly fans too. It maybe a rip off of Gorman products but personally, I always liked that jersey. Like several other teams, the alternate jerseys I favor much more over the normal jerseys. The Oil drop for the Oilers, the Lady Liberty on the Rangers, and the Fisherman on the Islanders.
Who the Fu** is this Joe “Spay-no” of whom you folks speak?! Sorry kids, couldn’t go any further than the moment you misspoke Joe Spano’s name. For Christ’s sake, lose the AI! 👎👎👎🤷♂️
Someone read Nick Hirshon’s book! Good video overall!
Bridgeport Islanders i think their called use thr fishermen logo on the current Islanders colors. Looks amazing.
Wasn’t even that bad of a logo. Oozing with 90s nostalgia
ESPN did a really good 30 for 30 documentary on John Spano's attempt to buy the Islanders called Big Shot.
The Islanders were never the same after Mike Bossy, Brian Trottier, Dennis Potvin and Bobby Nystrom. Along with Goalie Billy Smith and Coach Al Arbour.
Now 40 years after that Islanders Hey Day, I can’t see the New York Islanders ever repeat that success they had in the Early 80’s.
Their major upset over the powerhouse Philadelphia Flyers in the 1980 Stanley Cup Finals will forever be “Frozen in Time” considering that the Number One Flyers were a good 25 points better than the Islanders.
Speak the truth!!! Cheers
Who was the idiot who came up with this logo?? From the best uniform in the league to the worst. From Island hockey powerhouse logo to Captain Highliner. Everything went to sh!t once Bettman became commissioner. Then that hole brings in the shootout and later changes the home uniforms to dark ones. Body check that fool out of the NHL!
I always liked these jerseys. As a 90's kid, these were quintessential 90's: from the logo, to the "wave" design. Understanding the history of the Islanders franchise, I can understand the backlash over such a radical rebrand. It's nice to see that it's seemingly more and more embraced as time goes on. The "wave" design will always be appreciated by me. Growing up, our local ECHL team sampled the design in our colors of navy blue, red, white, & bronze. The Mississippi Sea Wolves won the franchise's only Kelly Cup the first year of the redesign in the '98-'99 season. After many subsequent redesigns, folding of the ECHL franchise, and even with the recent revival of the Sea Wolves name with our FPHL team, the 90's "wave" jerseys are still some of the most popular worn by our fans at the games.
Just subbed
I actually sort of like the logo, but it looks more like an AHL or ECHL logo than anything that belongs in the NHL.
Also, once a team reaches dynasty status, their logo tends to become iconic, and changing it is never a good idea. Like, imagine the Yankees, Bulls, Canadiens, Steelers, or Patriots ever changing their logo. It would NEVER happen.

If anytning , the lighthouse shoulder patch should have been the actual logo
A lighthouse on the front would have been awesome
I’m shocked it made a comeback. I’m still haunted by how I was made fun of by the Ranger fans at school.
The logo didn’t kill the dynasty. Bad management and the Edmonton Oilers did.
I actually liked the Fisherman logo
Disagree, Islanders fisherman logo/uniform was great. Their current one has and always been ugly.
The Devils didn't move to New Jersey until 1982, right after the Islanders' third Cup, so saying the Islanders were underdogs to the Devils from their beginning is ludicrous.
One of the best jerseys in the history of sports
