I love the stars and the ice girls its not degrading my opinion is its absolutely fine though all nhl teams can or cannot have them
Shelby acts like she loves her job and hey the cowboys cheerleaders like you said Shannon put them through their paces and so do the stars but if you are an ice girl and love the stars she more than likely gets free tickets and she probably thinks that's her favorite part of being an ice girl and maybe she gets to travel im not sure but its not degrading

Aren’t ice girls the nhl version of nfl cheerleaders?
Honestly, if you are a girl and need to work hard to get to your future, you work hard for it because it’s worth it. If you think it’s a degrading job, good on you for having a job that isn’t affecting you negatively, but leave them alone. It’s a job, it might not be the best and “right” in your opinion, but if they applied for the job, and work hard at it, stop stepping on their choices. A woman will never be able to do what they want in life without heavy criticism.
If a man does a degrading job, it’s because they need to feed their family.
Does a woman not need to make a living? To pay for her education, her livelihood, her family?
I wish jobs are equal for everyone.
Islanders fan here. The ice girls were great. Local figure skaters going out and scooping up the excess ice in the corners and in front of the goals. No big deal. Now they have guys come out and do it, and they do not do it as well as the girl did and they seem to not really want to be there

Honestly, I could not care less. For me, hockey is enough to attract me to hockey. I don't care about the music, the mascots, the ice girls, etc. That being said, I don't care if zero teams have ice girls, a few teams have ice girls, or all teams have ice girls. If it helps a woman make money, then by all means, go ahead.
I agree, classier than being a stripper, it creates jobs and economy. I respect these woman as well as long as they want to be there im good with it. End of the day its fun and they are talented dancers. No Leafs dont do this ever

I, too, did a double take when I realized that cheerleading became a sport, but the maneuvers that they do are no joke. A lot of them are former gymnasts that changed over. The competition goes to (and beyond?) the college level as well. Which is why male cheerleaders are so built.
On a side-note: I would totally do that job for free tickets and a good wage if I had the skills.
I can’t imagine these girls make much money (somebody correct me if I’m wrong) but it’s a cool promotional thing that gets your attention and I don’t see a problem with it. Columbus still has them too. Hot girl lives matter.

My little sister is an cheerleading coach its an great hobby for her and many other girls, atleast they have something better to do than watch trash reality TV or something
Bruins don’t have ice girls anymore.
This is far better than any alternative. Women are making money without putting themselves in harm's way and getting to cheer for a team. It's sport. It's a way cleaner money maker then prostitution or anything else.
But they're there to entertain and do a job. Not to solicit and do other sinister crap.

I have a friend who is an amazing dancer. She loves dance. It's her life's passion. The trouble is that there are few jobs possibilities unless you make it really big. She is now cheerleading and she really enjoys it. She gets to perform, she's a perfectionist about it, and she does a great job. Would she like to be performing on Broadway? Sure. But there are fewer "roster spots" there, and it doesn't pay well. These girls should be thought of as entertainers, not eye-candy, and should be appreciated as such, because these girls are good at what they do. Is there some level of sexualization of them? Sure, but there are of ballerinas too. Don't think that there isn't.
Live in Dallas area and go to a lot of games. Never noticed them. I think they are stuck off to the side.

My older brother was recently engaged to a Ducks ice girl. They don't do it for the money, they make $12 an hour. You can make much more money in California doing other jobs, such as bartending.
In my opinion as long as the ice girl gets enough money and is comfortable doing the job then who are we to judge

I'm okay with it as long as the team does something about any harassment and abuse that is directed towards the cheerleaders. Stories like this one are disappointing to say the least.

I don't like the ice girls because here in stlouis, they used to let the youth players in the area scrape the ice. It was a very cool thing for those kids to get to do.
Are these ice dancers/cheer leaders the same ones that skate around with the shovels and scrape the ice every time there is a stoppage or tv timeout?
I have no problem with ice girls. I have a problem with some of the uniforms (if they are mandatory) and would like some guys as well. Also respect that they work hard. Hope they get paid a decent wage!

For the most part I think cheerleaders actually enjoy their jobs and take it very seriously. Not fair to label it as sexist. It's the same as saying the guys out there playing the sport for our entertainment is sexist.

I mean you can petition to get cheerleading taken out if u want but 1,you would be making many woman lose there jobs. 2, I know many girls who like being cheerleaders. 3, they are strong independent woman who I have a tune of respect for because let’s face it drunk people suck and probably call then terrible things yet they still love they’re job.how can you take that away from them just because you don’t like it. I just saw this video, and this is the first ever comment I have left on a youtube video, and it's for a video from a year ago, just to give you some context.
I agree with all the reasons you gave for the women to want to be ice girls / cheerleaders / brand ambassadors. However!
What is the point of the ice girls? Why are they there? To give guys pretty girls to look at. I think that's pretty open and shut.
As the NHL continues to grow the game, why would they do something that drives away a growing segment of their customer base? Women are going to, participating in, and appreciating in hockey, and ice girls and cheerleaders are pretty universally frowned on by women. Hockey succeeded and thrived for decades before adding ice girls, and adding them only holds back their growth. But they give the old customer base, who are pretty loyal and going to watch anyway, something to watch during stoppages.
It doesn't make sense to me.
I mean I get why other girls could see it as sexist. But as long as the girls who have the job or comfortable and aren’t being forced to do it why should others care just because they wouldn’t do it.

The Carolina Hurricanes are definitely much better about the cheerleaders than stars. Don’t make them wear as skimpy outfits. They wear longer tops and wear pants rather than shorts most of the time. They also aren’t required as much time designated and aren’t required to be able to skate. A lot of the Storm Squad have graduated college. One of them owns their own fashion line. One of them even attends UNC and is getting her PhD. Another one works in cheerleading for kids with Down syndrome. They are all different. They aren’t abused unlike many other cheer teams and I recently talked to one of them who said they actually get paid more than several NFL squads. They also normally have security near them for their protection and they work hard. The nice thing about the Hurricanes is that the entire first round of auditions is actually based on personality and how they interact with others. It also provides sisterhood for these ladies. If you compare Vegas’ cheerleaders to Dallas’ and Carolina’s, you’d see why. These teams dont “use” then as NFL and other NHL teams do. If you see them outside a game, they’re not dancing or acting like a stripper, they’re just being friendly, making conversation and trying to make people laugh. Some of these squads are absolutely amazing. Others not so much. I applaud teams like Carolina and Dallas for their approach with cheerleaders. They’re aren’t said “your opinion doesn’t matter” like NFL squads are and they truly deserve recognition for their work. Other teams like Vegas and Chicago however, their outfits are way to skimpy and they use them more as sex toys. Vegas, several people filed complaints to the Golden Knights regarding the ice girls’ uniforms in their inaugural season for being too skimpy.

Just an opinion but I feel cheerleading is something from a past era. Women dancing on the sidelines in revealing outfits is on par with smoking on an airplane.
High schools in our area would not permit cheer uniforms in the classrooms but are fine with them performing in front of creepy dads.
Again, just one opinion.
