1. What if JT is just not enjoying hockey anymore and is considering retirement after the 4 Nations. A change of scenery might be nice for the player, but he has a no trade because he loves his family in Vancouver. His life is enjoyable outside of his job and he doesn't have a shortage of money. Think of the person and not just the team. That's quite possibly what the mental health leave was about. He has family and life to think about that is a higher priority than hockey. I would totally respect his decision if he chooses to retire and focus on family. He wouldn't be the first top player to make those heavy decisions. Even another leave and LTIR might be the best decision. He hasn't gotten a lot of compassion from his first leave for personal reasons and it wasn't very long. A perfect example would be Patrick Laine taking a leave after clearly not enjoying playing hockey. Give the guy some time. LTIR and let him return when ready, trade for a prospect as Columbus did with Laine if it's not going to work long term. Just give the guy some time to figure out his life. Don't expect a lot in return. It's a contract dump if best case scenario in Vancouver isn't going to work. Do what's best for the person. Columbus and Montreal did it for Laine. It's his mental health. And it's a risk for the team picking him up.

  2. is JT's problem the same as it was when he took 9 games off? if it mental, shouldn't he step away for awhile.
if it is a permanent problem, cut bait and move on.

  3. I've been listening to you two for quite a number of years and I gotta say. Hearing Mat drop F bombs is always a surprise 😂 I like it don't get me wrong. Definitely not used to hearing it

  4. Doesn’t he deserve to wait til this season ends. I think someone is going to be added that will really help and JT will again play to his capabilities as he heals

  5. Gotta trade JT asap to see if Petey responds and gets back to an 11.6 player. If he doesn't then unload Petey before his ntc kicks in.

  6. why would u trade him now?
    he will only get
more valuable as the trade deadline comes and teams that are close, overpay at the deadline.

  7. 4 games ago against the habs, hes mvp.
take a breath boys, hes not going anywhere for a month at least

  8. I'm sorry, did I hear you say that Vancouver might be the smartest hockey market there is?? As a lifelong Canucks fan, that's as absurd as suggesting JT for Bedard straight up.

  9. With everyone agreeeing / insisting that this isn't a "coaching problem"… That said: Wouldn't it be nice to see lines that last longer than 1 game? Tocchet's decisions on moving players ALL OVER THE PLACE, seemingly for no reason, except that a line had a poor performance in ONE game, is very confusing. There is absolutely no "chemistry" on this team right now; but how can there be, when no one gets to play with the same players every night, and have a chance to 'work through' the inconsistencies? Even the callups are all over the place. What works one game, doesn't the next, and the 3rd game has the lines juggled. This aspect of "coaching" IS something on Tocchet, whatever else is wrong with the team.

  10. If Petey doesn't get better after JT gets traded though, get rid of him in the off-season, sell Hughes on a quick rebuild, but Demko might have to go as well.
