What do you think?
No one wants to see their team lose but the fan base needs to accept that the team shouldn’t try to turn the season around at this point. The retool needs to start now, Don and Cam need to be shown the door, and we need to pick a C in the top-15. The team is as bad as we’ve seen them in a decade, which is why now is the perfect time to start making real adjustments.
When the coach benches Marchand, that plays 110%, game in and game out, in over time, and in the shootout, I kinda think that they should have a talk with the coach.
I say they keep the players who are playing, sell off what they can to get picks to start the rebuild…..DO NOT trade for rentals.
Never mind a re-tool! Blow up this horrible hockey team starting with Sweeney! Marchy, Coyle, Carlo, Zacha need to go for starters. Carlo blocks shots and scores the odd goal but he is useless taking the man from the crease. He was on the ice for at least 3 of the Devils goals. Marchy is a sentimental favorite but time to trade him for a grade A center! Coyle has lost his game as has Zacha. If McAvoy doesn't wake up then he can go too. Way too fat a salary when he's been mediocre at best the last 2 years. Blow it up! Feel bad for Monty. Great coach fired to take heat away from Sweeney! Shame!
I agree retool!! The season is lost if by some miracle they have a360 yay!! But don’t double down on team that doesn’t deserve it!!! Time to shop some players
16 out of 32 teams make the playoffs. To expect it consistently is not realistic. I'm not saying a complete retool, but some expensive "talent" needs to be considered in a major trade.
On January 16th, dear President Neely, in response to a reporter's question about the upcoming trade limit, said:
"We'll see where we are. I think right now we have to evaluate two paths: one, we're sellers, and the other, we might restructure our team a little bit. […] We still think we have a playoff team here, and we certainly don't want to jeopardize a playoff spot because we've made some trades that might help us in the future but hurt us in the present."
Excuse me??? "We'll see where we are […] We still think we have a playoff team here"!!! This is blatantly mocking the fans, their expectations (and those of some ambitious players on the team). How can a team president come to spout such insipid remarks in the current situation? And at the 2025 Black and Gold Gala, Neely added an additional piece of nonsense:
"We are not happy with our situation or our performance since, frankly, training camp."
"Not happy"??? While management is "not happy", the fans are angry… among other things, against this management that is only not happy and that is preparing a hopeless post-March 7 for them since, as usual, GM Sweeny will have waited too long once again and will have only been able to collect pawns in exchange for his best pieces. In short, on March 7, there will be new faces… but the team will present the same portrait.
You can always change the condiments on your hot dog, in the end it will still be a hot dog.
Meanwhile, another defeat last night, this time 5-1 against New Jersey… but BRUINS fans are reassured by the idea that Cam, Don and Joe are not happy!
So, retool? No. Rebuild? Yes… but a smart rebuild, that is to say by keeping a talented, experienced core as well as the only youngsters who have confirmed their determination and potential. In my opinion, this core around which we must rebuild is: Pastrnak, Marchand, Elias Lindholm, Brazeau, Lettieri, Poitras, Kastelic, Lysell, McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm and Peeke.
For all the others, I say "Many Thanks" for the services rendered and "Good Luck" under other skies.
Sell sell sell! Win now mode has won us NOTHING!
Always love the content. You're right on the money with regards to the retool. We need to decide on this now, otherwise it could get uglier, with no real direction. I'm a guy that will embrace whatever. If we play with rookies and younger players in the lineup during the retool process, it'll be interesting. I've got my dad hooked on the Bruins over the past 5 years as well. Since me and my parents visited Boston and saw a game in our second visit to the city, in 2019, against Buffalo, my dad and I always watch the highlights of the games. I also send him the funny videos from around the league and general bloopers. Always a good thing.
This team is not made for playoffs. I really hope Sweeney gets fired this offseason
Swaman cant do it ……………….
You’re 💯 percent correct! Thank you for your insight!
Is there a way to unload the bad deals ie: E.Lindholm. Zadorov…etc.?
Marchy giving to team, he gets to choose. Macevoy hasn’t earned this right, he is not tough, over rated, over paid, never learned from all the babysitting Vhara did with him, dump him !
I'm so glad I missed the game
It's time to break this team up, the front office as well. Sweeny and Neely have to go..
I've never believed this team is made for playoffs. We've been a regular season team for a half dozen or more years. NOT built for playoffs. We are built to get into playoffs and get one round of gate for the Owners. This year, we aren't even built for regular season.
Leafs? This is more their year.
FLA? Only got better
Even Montreal is doing great (They've done their rebuild over 5 years)
Our offseason signings made the B's BIGGER and BADDER, NOT faster or more skilled. AND Faster and More Skilled is what the modern NHL is now about.
Sweeney and Neely’s Plan A has been a flop so far this year. When results consistently miss the desired goal, there are two choices: change the goal or reconstruct the process, right? I don't mind Zadorov as he's been the thumper he was advertised to be. Lindholm has shown to not be a 1C which teams need for some measure of success. Their signings remind me of back in 2005 when Bob Clarke also thought he was the smartest guy in the room by signing Hatcher, Mike Rathje and Chris Therien, all big D guys. Meanwhile, Selanne, Kovalchuk, Jason Spezza and others were blowing by them like they were lampposts. You mentioned the Pens and their curious deals compared to what the Caps have done in short order. My concern is what the Pens and B's have in common: poor management. Dubas in Pittsburgh and Devito and Swartzeneggar in Boston. I have no faith in them overseeing any kind of process towards building a championship caliber roster. I don't have confidence they'll hire the best coach and staff available next summer for this stage of the development. A fresh set of eyes from outside the organization is badly needed to crtically and honestly assess the strengths and weaknesses of the roster. With these two at the wheel supported by the blind faith of the Jacobs, I don't share that faith.
You are.one hundred percent correct on everything you say about this team
You’re kinda like the Batman of Bruins reviews
Hopefully, management is smart and turns this bad year into something positive. They have an opportunity to move out expiring contracts for picks, which they absolutely should do, and if things keep going the way they are, they might end up with a top 10 pick. One of the upsides to so many teams being in the hunt for a playoff spot is that it might drive up prices for rentals at the trade deadline.
Agree with GetOffTheLawn, diehard Bruins fan through thick and thin, have been since 1970. Don't follow Red Sox as much as I used to because I do not like rooting for a uniform. Constant changeover doesn't feel like a team. That said, Bruins need to re-tool but not wholesale changes. I have no say so let's see what happens.
4-1-1 Since McEvoy has been out
Bruins fans need tougher skin, it's not even been a full season of this embarrassing play. Bruins fans are spoiled as far as regular season points. We've been blessed and now it's time revaluate and suffer and build for the future.
First thing they need to do is to retool” the President and the GM. Let’s face it, they are the ones that put this team on the ice. Third line choices for an entire team of third line players.
They might be built to win in the playoffs, but you have to get to the playoffs first.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
only fools blame Swayman for this…… dead, empty team in front of him. Retool! new management too.
Get rid of Sweeny before he does something stupid to try to salvage the season
Not watching but following sens game… SOG went from 8-2 for bruins to 7-11 for senators.. I just shrug and think “ that sound about right …. Somehow get a negative shot.
Trade Pasta. That will get you 2 25 to 30 goal scorers, better defensively for sure. They will clear up salary cap space. Listen, young dummies who weren't there, they traded Esposito & Hodge in 75 Both who were 3 times the players Pasta will ever be. Truth hurts.
Great video and assessment. I believe they make the playoffs as wildcard this year and defeat Toronto in the first round
I don’t mind the retool idea. I think they have a good enough team to make the playoffs but I agree that they have not been able to consistently show it. That translates to a most likely early exit in round 1 even if they are able to turn things around. If you watched the Oilers last year they had a distinct change in philosophy with their coaching change, which was an obvious boost to their play. The Bruins change in coaching this year saw very little change and therefore seems almost pointless. When I watch the Bruins they are as you described them but mostly their bad games just look unorganized, even lost.
If Don Sweeney had any genius he would swing something for Nikushkin and Protas before their value goes up.
More comments than likes is very telling
The Bruins just beat Ottawa 2-0 looked very strong at the end of the game like a playoff team that can win..I’m a Diehard..
Been calling for a retool for some time. ❤
The entire narrative of "just make the playoffs and anything can happen" is horseshit. There's been what, 3 cup winners since the 70s who finished the season in the bottom half (5-8) of the playoff bracket? Most or all of those can be attributed to lucky breaks and extraordinarily bad calls going their way. In no universe is just making the playoffs good enough. I've always said, finish 1-4 or finish last. You're better off with a high pick than a 1 in 2000 chance of winning the cup by just squeezing in.
Can you be a bit more negative please?
Fully agree. Trade as many of the mid tier 2nd/3rd liners now while they are performing well and slot in the young guns. Should get a first for a Fredric and a hand full of 2nds and 3rds for the collective others while hopefully bringing back 1 or 2 solid-decent prospects.
Not only would it help the future but I think it would be a kick in the ass to the the big name players/contracts who can’t go anywhere to pick it up or you will not be seeing postseason hockey.
And oh ya… say goodbye to Neely and Sweeney.
I think goaltending and defensemen are fine except for Carlo. I don't know if having a child has messed with Carlo's focus but he's been horrible this year and I thought he was one of the Bruins better defensemen last year. i agree that the forwards are 3rd line players and they are the ones playing horrible team defense. They go to the puck like a bug to light leaving way too much ice in the defensive zone. Lohrei is making some bad mistakes but he is young and has a lot of potential, love his offensive play and future play potential. Used potential a lot but it's early in the morning for me.
