Columbus is they only 90s-2000s expansion team to be own by the same family that founded the team.
red wings being valued so low is shocking
Seeing Ottawa number going up is great especially for how horrible a location they have for their stadium.
Tampa and the Lightning also signed a 30 year extension in…. i think 2019 or 2020 to keep the franchise in Tampa, not sure if with Amalie Arena but the city put money behind it.
People for some reason are always shocked how die hard we are here in Cbus for the Jackets.
Just wanna point out that MSG has been issued the shortest permit in its history. NYC is trying to push a new Penn station to be built, saying that it's not compatible with MSG on top of it. MSG has been pushing for a permanent permit. Not sure what stages this is at right now but definitely something to keep an eye on
I feel like someone fudged the Arizona numbers.
There's no way that the value difference between Calgary and Vancouver is basically the same as the value difference between Arizona and Winnipeg.
I appreciate you being thorough but you couldve just skipped all the original 6 teams
I live in Ohio and frankly, the most popular hockey teams here are minor league Toledo and Cleveland and the Detroit Red Wings. Even the Wheeling Nailers have more Ohio fans than the Blue Jackets.
Heres a fun fact about the incompetent Democrat city of NY
In the 90's , the Dolans offered to move MSG to the West Side 33rd st & 10th ave, all they asked for was the city to build a Shuttle from Penn Station to the West side, which BTW is where the Train Yard is. But then Mayor Dinkins Refused, instead chose to spend the money on a Tennis center in Queens that host a once a year event !!!!
Heard rumblings that STL is going to be working towards renovations on the Enterprise Center
I had no idea the bell center holds so many more people than anywhere else…
11:11 They still would lose in the first round every year
Salt lake is going through what Denver had happen to it in the mid 90s. Itll work out fine for them there. They just cant choose anything related to the Avs as a name
There are rumors coming out about a potential expansion team in New Orleans within the next 5 years
I don't know what about Florida? Aren't they still bleeding money and I just know they will soon demand a new arena in downtown Miami. Even with back to back Cup Finals and a possible Stanley Cup I can't see Miami taxpayers agree to pay for an arena especially after having PTSD over the Marlins stadium especially with how the team is not universally loved by every local who lived their whole lives in Miami-Dale like the Heat and Dolphins are
The Coyotes did not move. The Arizona Coyotes franchise still exists, but is dormant. Their hockey related assets were transferred to a new expansion Utah franchise.
Is there enough talent to allow for expansion beyond the 32 present day teams?
Total culture difference. No promotion or relegation means no repercussions for finishing in the bottom two places. Coming from UK it is alien to me.
I know I’ll catch flack for it, but I honestly don’t care. Florida should still be considered in danger of getting relocated, simply because their fan presence was practically nonexistent prior to 2022. I can remember when that team was full of mediocrity and the franchise struggling to get any fans to show up at all. It was only once the team got good that the fans actually started showing up. I know that’s a common thing, but Florida seems to have a different level of fair-weather fans. One look around their crowd during these playoffs reflects that too. That crowd is full of jerseys from the last two years and very few from the past. If they didn’t know any better, one would be forgiven for assuming the Panthers are a new franchise
Why can't the Hartford whalers come back.
How is Buffalo not close? Is it because they only have 2 professional teams in the city? The bills and the sabres.
Can we get a video on potential expansion markets and a breakdown for each one?
I can confidently say that if a team were to get relocated next it won’t be an original 6 team at all it just wouldn’t make sense especially the history and markets they’re in
Haha.. I am currently building the boards for the Delta centre, gonna be a nice set (springs on boards and glass)
With Climate Pledge Arena originally being built for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, it's technically the oldest arena in the league. Obviously, it wasn't used for NHL hockey until recent years, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Avs fan here. Everything THG said about us is correct (on the surface) except, you never know with Kroenke. His track record is questionable. Only saving grace is Stan letting Josh and Sakic run the show.
SLC already has 2 teams in NBA and MLS. Having a 3rd is VERY questionable. There's usually only about 2 teams in small markets like that. Look at Vegas they have 2 brand new teams and they struggle sometimes trying to fill it with their own fans and then you have 3 other leagues trying to get in there as well chasing fools gold with gambling. That market is gonna have a mass exodus with 3 teams in 20 years. They all can't survive. 3 teams is definitely pushing it with small markets. SLC can possibly make it work, but they will definitely have the calls for relocation and build me a new arena or else blah blah blah talk.
Fun facts about the Bluejackets “horrific” playoff record. During their best run, they lost 4 out of 5 appearances to the eventual Stanley Cup champion (so “never out of the 2nd round” isn’t as bad as it sounds), they also SWEPT the greatest ever regular season team in NHL history and beat Toronto in the play in situation… all with a much lower payroll than the teams they’ve played. Nationwide is a better environment than a lot of the “big dog” franchises and are still drawing 17k plus attendance in a deep rebuild. Also.. look at the Johnny tribute from last night. It’s a fantastic market for the NHL
It looks like it would be less expensive to buy the Buffalo Sabres and move them, then it would be to apply for an expansion team at a price tag of $1 Billion. ??? Although you may have a riot at your front door from Sabres fans…
I heard Utah not building a new arena there just going to remodel the delta center
