  1. Bastian needs to keeps his head up. you think he would have learned his lesson after Rempe annihilated him last season 😂

  2. This is pretty much thr same hit as Whitecloud on Knies in November. Whiteckoud didn't get a penalty, fine or suspension.

  3. The announcers never help man……guys…. this is professional ICE HOCKEY. Stop with the nervous grandmother oohs and ah's. Its a massive open ice hit. It is impossible not to make some head contact there. Move on.

  4. That punk had it coming. Keep your head up or prepare to be hit like that. That's how hockey should be and hopefully will be again after bettman retires.

  5. In contrast from most of these comments, this is a garbage hit. Puck is LONG gone. It's not like he wasn't looking, he's looking down the ice atleast a full second before the hit, hence the dumping of the puck. This is a late as hell hit, and that's before even talking about the head contact… This is how you hurt people.

  6. Flyers fan here…love Seeler…but this hit is no different that the hit against Poehling…Seeler objectively deserves a suspension…dirty hit…it doesn't matter if you lead with your shoulder if you are fully aware that his head is the first thing your shoulder will hit🤦

  7. In roughly the same place Rempe blasted him last year. Bastian is a magnet for sure, but when you keep your head down like that, lessons are gonna be learned.

Oh wait… he didn’t learn. Maybe he should just keep the bubble on. 🤦🏻‍♂️

  8. Unpopular opinion – yes he should have seen the hit coming but it was a little late.

  9. These guys have no awareness anymore. Yes the head was contacted but Jesus you’re skating over the offensive blue line like he wasn’t going to hit. It’s crazy.

  10. Seeler is wearing hunting orange and Bastian doesn’t see him? Also poor Bastian🤣🤣 Rempe and Trouba laid him out last year and he still hasn’t learned 🤣😂

  11. I’ve been a Flyers fan most of my life, and frankly don’t care if is head was here or there, or if there’s blame to be laid.
Bottom line is the poor guy is in trouble, and I hope he’s feeling better soon – I hate seeing this, but sadly it simply happens.
    Nobody wins that exchange.

  12. If you hide your chest behind your chin like this there shouldn’t be a penalty. Maybe 2 rough seeler 2 embellishment bastian

  13. Once again, this is the NHL’s fault. By putting all the responsibility on the player making the hit and, basically, absolving the puck carrier/passer of any responsibility, they have created a culture that discourages hitting most of the time(watch any game). So much so that most players are expecting, at most, to maybe get bumped not hit. So, a lot of players don’t even feel the need to bother trying to protect themselves, because they’re reasonably sure the big hit isn’t coming. It’s like semi-autonomous driving tech that literally encourages inattentive driving. I hope Nathan Bastion is good to go…I have no problem with the hit.

  14. Nate pay attention you dork. Got rocked by Lomberg the other week, frail for his size

  15. Yes, we see the head get hit, but that's not the only requesite for calling an Illegal Check to the Head.

That CANNOT be called a penalty. It's ruining hockey. If every time a person lines up your center chest and you put your head in the way, then all you need to do to take all checking out of the game is to duck every hit. Every player knows to "stand up to a hit."

The rules for illegal check to the head are clear, but they aren't being followed.

"In determining whether contact with an opponent's head was

avoidable, the circumstances of the hit including the following shall be considered:

    (i) Whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponent’s body and the head was not "picked" as a result of poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward.

(ii) Whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by assuming a posture that made head contact on an otherwise full body check unavoidable.

(iii) Whether the opponent materially changed the position of his body or head immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit in a way that significantly contributed to the head contact."

    i. It wasn't a pick. He lined up on his chest
ii. His body position (head) made a clean check to the body impossible.
iii. It wasn't a last minute change of body position, but it wasn't a pick and body position made a clear check to the body impossible.

This guy has a history of not watching the play and getting caught. His own body posture has resulted in this same play several times already. He's wearing a bubble because he did the same thing before and before that and before that. The checks are not the problem. His body position is the problem.

Watch old tape of Messier. He had a strange skating posture because, even though he was squatting to take power strides, his head was still up. It looked strange, but he kept his head up.

  16. I mean yes Bastain was not looking which is dumb.
But the initial point of contact is the head and Seeler knew he wasn't looking!
They need to start handing out some heavy suspensions , this season is getting out of hand!
In this current NHL taking your glove off and blatantly choking some one isn't even a penalty !

  17. Despite what the media and league has tried to do in making the game more like figure skating, it's still a high speed collision sport played by men.
    Head on a swivel dude!

  18. As a Devil's fan, a clean hit.

This is not the first time, or second that Bastian has been lit up on the ice.

  19. Shoulder and elbow are tucked, bastian has his head tilted forward. That’s clean as a whistle.
