  1. My main worry is not having enough foundation. Right nows the best time to stock up on potential.

Once your middle of the pack. It’s that much harder to draft the top end talent. Possibly harder to trade for depending on how full the cupboards are. Over stock now, so you have a solid foundation and some pieces to play with.

But I agree you cant do that forever. If we hit on Mathew s. You still look to gather assets. But you also start looking and putting your iron in the fire for game changers through free agency and trade.

  2. Just one comment or disagreement with your thoughts as to draft picks. I believe you are wrong about GMMG valuing draft picks above players. If that was the case, we would not have Askarov on the team.

IMO, he uses draft picks like any other asset. To get a player or players that he believes he can help the franchise move forward in this rebuild.

Lastly, as to the trade. No one should look at this trade in a vacuum. I will reference the Hertl trade. No one was happy with it (I was). What he did was take those assets in that trade (included a first round pick in this year's draft (Vegas's)) and a prospect to get a player.

In that trade he included two third round picks. So two picks and a high value player for a first and a prospect. Then move that prospect and that pick for a prospect.

Clearly, GMMG does not prioritize picks above prospects or players. They are a tool like everything else to acquire what he thinks he needs to move the rebuild forward.
