    As stupid as it looks for Gilbert to drop the gloves against a better fighter simply because of what happened in the previous game? The NHL didn’t do anything about a direct shot to the head of Thompson so the league is basically encouraging this. The next time the Sabres play the Devils somebody needs to take a cheap shot at Jack Hughes, hopefully he won’t get hurt but the league is mandating retaliation. If the NHL doesn’t protect their best players it’s up to the team to respond and there is a time and place for everything.
