  1. Absolutely not Brian Haynes!!! Most valuable is Mitch Marner all day long! He does all positions plays offender, defence He does everything! Has way more points than Nylander but they are assists because he’s selfless! Nylander is a cherry picker!!!!

  2. Marner not only doesn't produce in the playoffs. He is a liability taking dumb penalties.

  3. presently: 1Marner, 2 Nylander, 3 Matthews…Auston won't score 50 again.
Would the Leafs be better and closer to the cup if Matthews was traded to say San Jose for a boatload of draft choices?

  4. Let marner walk, no Stanley cup with 3 forwards making over 11.5 million no money to go through the rest of the 9 forwards to make it a more balanced team

  5. Marner is a great player but saying quin hughes is the only match for him passing wise in the league is just moronic.

  6. Yeah pay Mitch whatever he wants because they've had so much playoff success so far. I like Bruce Boudreau but he's just dead wrong here. Offer Mitch a little more than Nylander, $11.8 million for 8 years or GTFO. I'm sick and tired of these guys getting TOP dollar for very close to ZERO success in the playoffs. If Toronto wins the cup give him whatever he wants, otherwise stick to your guns.

  7. I'm taking Nylander. He can play with anyone and still score and create chances, better skater, better at deking and better goalscorer. He also shows up more in the playoffs, especially game 6s and 7s.

  8. Marner is probably going to get a touch under Matthews. The last Marner contract was ridiculously too high for an RFA, i cant believe how terrible it was to be honest. Marner could get $14mm or more with the cap rising. Whenever the cap rises quickly the players fortunate enough to be a free agent generally get overpaid and use up all the new cap space

  9. Nylander. He brings it in the playoffs, and unlike Marner there’s no known formula to stop him. Marner, as great as he is, when teams focus on banging him off the puck he fades.

  10. He shouldn't get a penny more than he's already making now.. Enough for this Matthews/Nylander talk.. Just pay him his value or trade him. Period!

  11. We just saw in the Calgary game that the Leafs play better WITHOUT Marner. Shanahan should be fired if they get nothing for him.

  12. what you get for a slightly increased paygrade in Marner is the defensive play Nylander lacks, Nylander is a great player offensively and he isn't terrible defensively but he's no Marner, Nylander is more of a sniper Marner is more of a playmaker, basically they're equally good in their own ways except when it comes to the defensive zone where Marner thrives much more than Nylander, it's good having both players as they have different skill sets and with the salary cap expected to inflate in the coming years I'm personally not as concerned as I once was about the paygrade of these players, I would assume Tavares will be taking a slight pay cut if he ends up signing back in Toronto as well on a shorter term contract so there will be plenty of wiggle room to make sure the core is financially viable to keep and to be able to afford to surround them with players that keep the team a top regular season team and to hopefully try and get them over this long playoff series drought aside from the 1st series a couple years ago.

  13. Marner: plays offence, has exceptional defence skills & plays defence, kills penalty, has high hockey IQ & great passing ability but does not have mental thoughness, disappears during playoffs
Nylander: plays offence, high kockey IQ, exceptonal skating ability, excellent stick handling & heavy on the puck, has mental toughness & performs well during the playoffs but does not play defence, does not kill penalty
    Therefore, the answer is Nylander
Although both are exceptioanlly talented players and the question is not thelpful.

  14. Obviously Nylander – dangerous every time he is on the ice. Playoffs he is a beast – has no fear. Ask other teams' players – they will tell you.

  15. Back when they were drafted, everyone said Marner by a country mile. I said they were even.
No one believed me and wanted Willy traded.

Now? Foresight is something you can’t teach someone.
Willy is on par with Marner.

  16. I heard Carolina wants MM and is willing to spend 14m per. If Leafs want to keep him they better sign him soon.

  17. I'm not crazy about either of them but the answer is clear. Mitch.

Willie floats and cherry picks. He's capable of that dog mentality. We just rarely see it. Unbelievably frustrating.

Hayes, idk wtf you're on. Man, she's undoubtedly more valuable. I agree about money but he's a spoiled little brat. He's going to get what he wants.

Bruce, 34 doesn't care about winning. He doesn't have that dog in him. Not that we've seen, anyway.

  18. The smart thing to do is go after Rantanen. Marner is soft, perimeter player that is overpaid and defence is overrated. How can you be good defensively being soft. On boy he has an active stick…lol Averages LESS than 1 hit or block when the game matters most over 8 playoff series. Way overrated!

  19. On a team with Matthews, its Marner. Without an elite sniper on your team its Nylander

  20. Do the leafs want to have their 3rd and fourth lines to have stronger and better players to have a better chance at the Stanley Cup whick it will take so Marner has to take a cut at 13million dollars on a 5year deal at best to hopefully round out better players on the 3rd and fourth lines whick it will take to have better chance at the Stanley cup.

  21. There is a LOT of Payola in the Toronto Media market….. Marner's Agent has paid off a lot of guys with Rolex, Vacations, Access….. and Boudreau has been paid. Totally ridiculous to say pay him whatever Marner wants…. that's the pit Dubas sunk the Leafs into for 8 years.

  22. Nylander is a physical beast. Stronger, faster skater, elite shot and harder to knock off the puck. In the playoffs, Marner is too easy to neutralize and keep to the outside.

  23. Marner is the best player. Nylander is a great goal scorer but he is a defensive liability and disappears for 10 to 15 games at a time every year.

  24. Save some money for the rest of the team. Don't pay Marner whatever he wants. We beat Calgary without him last night. I agree with Hayes on this one.

  25. I keep hearing about willy being so good in the playoffs. What i remember most is nylander's laziness and defensive mental blunders causing six big game changing goals against in the last four playoff years.

  26. money money money money money money money money money millions and millions and tens of millions more.

  27. Those who are impressed with attitude, coolness, and style prefer Willy. Those who appreciate what a hockey player provides during an entire game and at both ends of the ice prefer Mitch.
