HEEE SHOOTS HEEEEE SCORESSSSSSS!!! SLAP ME SILLY, SIDNEY!!!!
I met mike at monte cellos in ross , he appeared to be prepping for a broadcast but took time out to speak to my group and talk hockey ! he was great with the fans ! he will be sadly missed 🙁
The. Best. Announcer. Of. All. Time. RIP
Rest in Peace Mr. Lange. You will be missed. I didn’t grow up a hockey fan, but I heard one of your broadcasts and instantly was hooked. Thank you for introducing me to this great game.
DK, I absolutely tip my cap to you for your very thoughtful, considerate, and respectful tribute to Mr Lange. I had never heard the man myself as a young teenager in 91 & 92, living in Burnaby, BC then, and following my then team Vancouver Canucks, probably mostly due to my love for Pavel Bure, your tribute makes me wish I would have had the pleasure too. He sure must have been something special! As a Yankee fan, I do understand that feeling of losing someone that special as we had an announcer by the name of Bob Shepherd. They called his voice "The Voice of God," and there was no one like him! His first game ever announcing, he said the names Mickey Mantle, Joe Dimagio, Phil Rizzuto, etc, and his last game said the name The Captain Derek Jeter. Yes, it's quite incredible. You paid such a beautiful tribute DK, please know that. God bless you, Victor 🇨🇦 🙏♥️✝️
Well done DK. I'm a little older than you. The reason I and my friends got interested in the Penguins in the 70's was Mike Lange. Most of the "bad old" Penguin days/years were painful other than listening to Mike Lange. Other than Dan Kelly, he was the most interesting announcer I ever had the priviledge to listen to.
I am a legally blind Penguins fan from Northern Ontario Canada, and Mike Lange's words truly allowed me to see the game in a truly special way. Thank you for the legendary calls, and painting a beautiful verbal picture for me on so many nights. It's a HOCKEY NIGHT IN HEAVEN!
a lot of pens fans today don't know what it was like in the early days ( pens came into the NHL in 1967 ) but there was little talent on the team and the only big names were players who were well past their primes and there were few fans in the stands and if you wanted
one a free ticket was easy to get . mike was able to make bad games and horrible mismatches interesting the catch phrases were great but he was keeping the fans interested , he saved hockey in Pittsburgh now doubt about that ! a sad day for all of hockey .
What a tribute DK. Five stars no notes. “A part of all of us has left the building”. Damn. Thank you for the history, the stories and the beautiful words. This is a truly special episode
He will always be a legend. RIP sir 😢😢
I cried after hearing this… Great piece of work DK… Mike would be proud!
Thanks DK, I don’t know how you pulled this daily shot off. I cried from beginning to end. You said it best in that every fan could feel the energy and passion for the game. A true Pittsburgh icon.
DK: thank you for this thoughtful and deserving tribute to Mike Lange. I hope Mr. Lange will be appropriately recognized prior to tonight's 4Nations Championship game.
His voice was one of a kind. He brought the crowd with him in such a way that he could only do. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family , friends and loved ones. Thank you DK for this show.
Thank you so much for this DK. This was what I needed today, what a great tribute and the perfect reminder to appreciate the right now. We are all poorer for this loss.
Well done DK. Blessed that he was the voice that introduced me to hockey
thank you Mr. Lange..
Great Job DK! Mike Lange will always hold a special place in my heart. My Father who passed away 15 years ago would always quote Mike Lange to me when I was little. Many great memories came flooding back while listening to your tribute, so thank you for making this grown man cry tears of sadness and joy all at once.
❤
Beautiful tribute!
I grew up with his voice. Legend. He was never a homer. He did a very even handed play by play. The current play by play guy is awful.
I got to love hockey because of him back the 70's I would go to bed early just to listen to him Rest In Peace 🙏
Thank you DK, a fitting tribute. RIP Mr. Lange.
I'm 38, and I grew up a Penguins fan. Mike Lange is right up there with the Penguin player greats and should be forever immortalized in Pittsburgh history. My late grandfather and I always bonded over hockey and we both adored Lange. For so many people in our area, he is the voice of hockey. This one hurts, and I can only hope he's looking down at us and smiling like a butchers dog.
I am 62. The greatest announcers of my lifetime were Bill Hillgrove for the Steelers, Bob Prince for baseball and Mike Lange was the Penguins!
An absolute great announcer who will be missed. He made all my games that much more memorable. Elvis has just left the building. 😢
Greatest Of All Time!!!!! " Heeeeeee shoots and scores" "Scratch my back with a hacksaw" Truly a legend!!!
R.I.P. Mr. Lange. You made this world a better place! 😢
Great show today DK. Brought back a lot of memories! R.I.P. Mike Lange
I never met Mike but I feel like I knew him my whole life. His voice has filled my home and my memories of Pittsburgh penguins hockey like no other player. Because players have come and gone but my whole tenure listening to the pens staring in 1996 till he hung it up. It's impossible for me to remember the Pens greatest moments without his calls being the sound of those memories. Really hard to describe getting choked up over a man I never met but the way he called the games felt like he was speaking right to you the individual listener in a way that built this connection. I am deeply saddened by Mike's passing, he was an absolute treasure and I feel so fortunate to have gotten to enjoy him for so long.
Unrivaled.
Elvis has left this mortal coil 😢
I have been a Penguins fan since 1980 when Pittsburgh played the Islanders in the playoffs and lost.
I was at a Devils vs Penguins Patrick Division playoff game in NJ 1999. Pittsburgh won game six. I usually went to games at the swamp with a friend and we would sit in the top row for $18. I paid $40 that night. I waited for people to disburse as I got to the stairs Mr Lange was walking right beside. I recalled catching KDKA on my boombox a mile from the ocean in Ocean Grove NJ. I recalled some memorable moments you can talk about in 55 seconds. I asked him to sign my ticket. I almost cried. 😢
Thanks for being the face of the Penguins for so long. One of my favorites is " Get in the Cordoba baby, we're going bowling " 💕
I have been a Pens fan since the early 70's. We suffered through many bad seasons, and when they finally won the cup, the person I was most happy for was Mike Lange. RIP legend, and buy Sam a drink, and get his dog one too.
What a lovely tribute to a beloved legend. Brought tears to my eyes remembering my youth and listening to his iconic descriptions. Thanks DK!
Lange is just as critical to the Penguins' legacy as Lemieux, Jagr, Malkin, or Crosby. Jagr said as much during his number retirement ceremony.
This was sacrilege to some, but when I had seasons tickets—Crosby's rookie season until 2016—I'd listen to the radio broadcast during the game. I walked into the arena wired up like I was on a sting operation. As soon as I got to my seat I fished some earbuds from under my shirt and turned the game on. It just seemed wrong, like I was really missing out, if I didn't hear Lange's perspective while I watched.
👏 :' ]
I can hear you holding back tears. God Bless Mr. Lange. 🙏
Me n my buddy Matt met him at a restaurant in Monroeville n he treated us like long lost brothers!
Sad, sad day.
My sincerest condolences to all who knew and loved Mr. Lange.
Such a sad day. Met him a few times he even signed my first born oneself ( scratch my back worth baby powder). He will be missed. The game to mejust have not been the same without him calling the game. Just as much an icon an Myron was. Rup Mr Lang.
Thank you for the beautiful commentary, DK.
Dk, with the overwhelming success in viewership ratings for the 4 nations why isn't the NHL promoting Saturday's Pens v Caps game anywhere? You'd think they'd capitalize on Sid v Ovie, Pens v Caps, Saturday afternoon which is a good time for anyone to watch. I don't understand the lack of self promotion.
“Part of all of us has left the building.” Perfect..Great job DK
Met Mr. Lange and bought him a beer at the Decade in Oakland. I was a star-struck college kid. He was kind and gracious and treated me with dignity, talking with me as if I was his equal. This amazing man who i had listened to as a kid on the radio did that for me. Will never forget
Well said d.k!
