  1. This is a crazy thought, but the sharks are gonna need to spend between 16 and 24 million to hit the cap floor next year, if my math is right…

Do the sharks go after Rantanen in the offseason? We could offer him a ton of money and term, given a 14 million contract now will look insane, but the cap will go up another 8-12 million over the next 3 years… and all the bad contracts will be off… Just kind of imagining putting a legit superstar on the team to mentor Celebrini and also take some heat off of him.

Probably wont happen, but maybe Rantanen is really just looking for a pay day this offseason.

  2. Generically, my preference is to get picks over prospects. But it always comes down to specifics.

  3. I like the idea of playing some of the young'ns but as they are already playing four rookie forwards (Kovalenko, Graf, Smith and Celebrini) and for all intents and purposes two rookie defensemen. Add Muk to that mix and that is a lot of youth.

I would like to see players like Gusch, Cardwell, Bystedt, Cagnoni, and Bords get their cup of coffee. For me, Bords and Gusch should get the lion share of the time as I believe GMMG has to make a call on those two and Robins as far as their futures with the Sharks organization.

With the expected arrival of Musty, Haltunnen and Chernyshov, there will be less spots for them on the Cuda roster (assuming none of those three make the Sharks roster out of camp).

  4. I agree with weaponizing their cap space at the TDL. I would second another comment here that if they do I prefer players and prospects over picks. Maybe they could package together some picks and players to get a player that another team could not afford.

Maybe take back a short term bad contract to sweeten the deal? My only concern is any contract they take back might take a slot in the lineup that another more talented player would earn (say Chernyshov or Cagnoni).

  5. Could you do an episode on what you expect the Sharks to do during this next offseason please? I know it is a little early still, but I would love to get your take on what you think they might do and who you think may be available. Thanks!

  6. A 40pt rookie season is the benchmark for an elite player. Mikko had 39 but was robbed on an assist imo. Anyways, Macklin is The Man, & SJ fans should be excited for this summer!

  7. I think they'll still be able to weaponize their cap space despite the cap going up in the coming years. Teams will start paying palyers and then realize that their cap didnt go up by as much ad they thoight it did
