should point out goalie changes at the trade deadline has never really panned out for that particular season.. usually it takes some time for the goalie to adjust.. new system, need to know the d and how they expect retrievals.. etc
taking us to the final again would be a huge disappointment, possibly destroying the Drai+McDavid couple forever. Not sure why everybody brings that argument. Last year was NOT GOOD ENOUGH, including goal-tending. If it were good, Panthers wouldn't have led 3-0 the series. Or Game 7 Skinner wouldn't have let 2 goals. He was not an ENABLER he was a passenger. The difference is colossal. The more passengers you have on the roster, the more you will reach finals and be a forever loser like Canucks or Leafs. If that's your ambition, then stay with Skinner! And Bouchard. And Knoblauch. Those Types are not absolute WINNERS!
If I'm so wrong about Skinner not being a very good goalie like so many genius's love to tell me, then isn't it strange that even management is starting to figure that out, and so many former Skinner fans who formerly spewed insults and name calls at anyone stating facts they don't like, dense as they are, even some of them are starting to grasp it. 18 months late but better then never.)

Does "expected goals" stat factor in if the goaltender can rely on expect g what the defense is going to do in front of them? Because both Skinner and Pics have no idea (in my opinion) what the defensive play will be! Therefore, they are simply exposed to absolutely everything all the time.

Nurse's contract will always be the factor of how we got here. Along with many bad decisions along the way. GM issues making bad mistakes over the years is why we cannot have a top goaltender.

It's so crazy how good drafting and good GM decisions can turn around a team. It doesn't necessarily mean it's best to have the top pick or even the best tandem in the league. The Cap's brass sure did a good job BUILDING a team. Caps will win the cup this year, meanwhile the Oilers will still be talking about goaltending and defence in the coming years. The Oilers will NEVER get a Cup until this generation expires and Nurses contract expires. Too many mistakes by the GMs in the preceding years. Chirelli crippled us with Koskinen. Holland crippled us, at the knees, with the Nurse and Campbell contract. Those two contracts prevented us from getting top talent while McDrai are in their prime.
Colorado clearly won that trade and Rantanen was too greedy for his own good. Rantanen went from could have been great to a side note.
The Oilers are desperate for help and are taking any aging veteran who had previous success. All this old fogies want to come to Edmonton so they can win, but they are old and washed up.
Why would St Louis trade Binnington?
Skinner is a solid backup goalie, but don't rely on him to win a cup, Binnington is a no-brainer. The Oilers would have to act fast, since McDavid + Draisaitl's prime years are getting shorter and they are the best chance of this generation to bring home the cup.
If Ovi breaks the record and wins a cup, he needs to just mic drop and retire.
