Offense has dried up, no powerplay, defense and goaltending aren’t there, the coaching system is broken… What in the name of Elvis has kept the Hurricanes in 2nd place in the Metro?
I honestly think the best pitch the front office can give him isn't about this year, but the future. I agree that the Canes don't look good enough to win this year, and I think the front office knows that full well. I think the best course of action is to keep him on past the deadline, pause all contract talks until mid June, and just let him absorb/get acclimated to everything that has happened. Is it a risk? Yes, for sure – and if he walks that would suck but it's not the end of the world. I swear I think he just needs some space to breath and play hockey – I think there is a far greater chance that we sign him if we go that route, than if we keep pressuring him to make a decision. The mistake with Guentzel is that we waited too long to match his offer…but we don't want to swing the pendulum too far the other way, where we are aggressively trying to shove a new contract down Rantanen's throat before he even knows where the closest grocery store to his apartment is haha.
He should come back to the Hawks!
