It's really just Ritchie and a first round pick for Nelson. The third round pick has an unlikely condition (basically Avs have to win the Cup), Dufour is a nothing prospect and the defenseman was flipped to Anaheim.
It makes sense for both teams. Avs got the best center on the market. Isles get two pretty significant building blocks for the future.
As an Isles fan, I am happy with it.
As a Av fan, I like this deal. Ritch is one highest prosects that Avs has, but the feeling of a controllable asset of Necas and having 2 top franchise players now makes Ritch expendable. Dufour will be developing project. Avs have most of their core locked up.
If trade for Mittelstadt is to happen, it's most likely during off-season, unless it going to improve the team in one for one trade. But this is the best center depth that Avs had since Sakic, Forsberg and Ricci.
Avs might try and flip Casey and picks for Carlo/Marchand is the word
The 3rd is conditional on aves winning cup, and 50 percent salary retained by islanders

Good for Lou. Not an Islanders fan, but he managed to get a good package back for Nelson. Not overwhelming but the main thing was to get younger and Ritchie sounds like a good prospect and a first rounder next year. A very fair return. Maybe Lou isn't a washed up GM after all.
The islanders tried to extend Brock but he declined a 3 year deal. I think ultimately as a fan and as a franchise this is the most difficult outcome but also the smartest. We’ll miss you Brock, go get the cup.

A stud in Ritchie – +45, +77 in past two years with the Genny's in the minors. A centreman at that! AND Uncle Lou grabbed us a 1st rounder for next season. Two young players in, one we know has massive potential and upside and one highly paid aging player out. Good start!

I know a lot of mad Duck fans seeing another D man come to the roster when they have tons of young kids who need play time. He’s def a depth player, might even be used as a trade piece today.
