  1. I'm a Fan of OVY for sure but let's not forget that Ovechkin has scored 27 goals in OT …in the New Era of NHL since 2015. Wayne Gretzky never had that opportunity. One only has to imagine how many goals The Great One could have scored if he had the chance to play 3on3. I know there was Overtime in PlayOffs only when Gretzky played but not in regular season. When OVY gets to 900 or more then I'll consider him the scoring legend . Anyone else feel the same?

  2. Just chills watching NHL history about to be made this year. The Great One and The Gr8. Really hop ing to see WG in attendance to see Ovie breaking his record. A truly, truly generational and epic player.

  3. if only he did not get injured this season. Not only ovi would have shattered the record, he would also have another 50 goal season

  4. I am saying it, if Gretzky himself didn't give his express personal blessing, I strongly suspect the code wouldn't allow this to be a discussion.

I don't know it for a fact, but I just know it's true.

Look at the total games in the all-time stats and games played.

A lot of people called it quits for whatever reason early on tha all-time lists.

Hockey is like it or not it's own culture. I think Wayne had and will always have an amazing influence in the locker rooms, offices and meetings in the league.

If I was Wayne looking back, I would certainly be thinking about Mike Bossy and Bobby Orr injured well before their times should have ended.

Brett Hull love him or hate him was just phenomenal at scoring.

Pavel Bure, and goal machine, but to do it blew his legs out.

Lindros, who was badly encouraged to not only score but hurt others badly and that caught up.

Jagr, takes years off the NHL and still is the ONLY non-Canadian player in the top ten points.

Now we have the great 8. The second non-Candian to crack the top 17, AND have a shot at #1 Goal GOAT?

What can you say? The GAME owes it to him, it just does. IF you comment on the empty net goals, you need a stiff jab in the face and don't know anything, 8 has done this with massive gear on goalies.

If you say Gretzky could have scored more goals, you would be absolutely correct. But he made more goals happen for more wins in a team effort.

For the longevity, the toughness, the dedication and commitment, Alex really is the best goal scorer of ALL time, and deserves it. HOCKEY deserves this.

    Unexpected diatribe.

  5. Finally, a legit analyst who doesn't twist his accomplishments by going on about his curve or his empty net goals.

  6. At first, I did not want Great 8 to hit n pass Gretzky's record. But I am and always have been keen on Ovi. Go get it bud

  7. He's missed 16 games dues to a broken fibula, and is tied for 4th in the league in goals…..at 39. The man truly is 1 of 1.

  8. How cool would it be if the Great 8 scores goal #888 and then just walks off the ice, retires, and is never heard from again 😂

Jk that would actually suck. Hope Ovi breaks this record and then wins his 2nd Stanley Cup. What a way to cap off a legendary career.

Edit: Ovi would be gunning for 1000 goals if not for losing 2 seasons due to lockouts and Covid. He could still do it if he wants but I think he will retire after next season.

  9. I'm glued to Caps right now, I hope Gretz shows up for the big goal. This is an incredible accomplishment.

  10. WATCHED THE GREST ONE PRETTY MUCH BREAK EVERY RECORD NOW VERY FORTUNATE TO SEE AND WATCH I RECORD BY A VERY GOOD GOAL SCORER BE BROKEN..YOU MAY LIKE OR DISLIKE OVIE . . BUT HIS TALENT IS AT SCORING IS WOW. AND JUST A TIDBIT MATTREAWS IS ON I HIGHER PACE AND QUICK EST THAN OVIE WAS. LOOK AT THE STATS NOT BY MUCH

  11. Will he be posing for pictures with Putin this summer and giving a boost to the world’s modern day Hitler?
