So thrilled that Rantanen has left the arena. What does Dallas have for Rantanen? Theres like six Finns on the squad, Rantanen played juniors in San Antonio, and its a chance for him to get revenge on the Avalanche. An absolute mess, but Carolina wins the trade deadline this year. Let's face facts fellow canes fans, almost every other contenting playoff team made moves at the deadline that made their teams better. Even the lowly Ottawa senators. The canes traded a point per game player for a player with 29 points, not 29 goals but 29 points. This is not an organization that is serious about winning now and they gave up on this season with 20 plus left. Tell me why I should care then?

Okay so here is an opinion to consider. Canes and AVS made this deal in secret, Team Rantanen knew none of it. And it showed in the media that he took offense to that. Childish, maybe. And Im gonna say to all of the Canes fans, you cant say any given day of the week that especially during those first 10 games he didnt create opportunities to hes linemates to score. I watched all of them and the sheer amount of wasted scoring opportunities was something I had never seen watching him play in Colorado. I predicted he would be a Panther in the end, but Dallas was second on my list. Since day one after the trade, I knew he would not sign before summer anyway. Not after the original deal was done behind his back.

As an Avs fan I can say both us and The Canes are better without him. He is a good sniper when everything else is going great but commits a ton of penalties and completely disappears for long stretches. Necas is great though I love that guy

I disagree with the last caller. I thought Tulsky got great return, given what he was up against. Imagine this scenario: We hang on to Rantanen, we win Rd 1, but lose Rd 2 to the Caps. Jul 1 comes and Mikko can't get on a plane fast enough. We're left with nothing and we got no further with him than without. Could Rantanen go into Beast Mode and deliver us at least a Conference Final? Maybe. Are you willing to bet Stankoven, two firsts, two thirds on that? I wouldn't. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Tulsky swung for the fences and it didn't work. But we mostly got out unscathed.
