The rotting, stinky, wet stain ghost of Kyle Dubas lingers like a fart trapped in a jar!
I started seeing water cooler fans bitching about Treliving just a couple of months into his tenure, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that space around office water coolers is at a premium now!!
To all the water cooler experts out there, and you know who you are ~ the only reason you have any interest in the Leafs comes down to your status at work is one stupid comment away from winning the dreaded "Mucktart of the Year" award, given to those annoying loud mouth people at work who has opinions on literally everything who actually believe they know better than everybody else at work combined when the harsh North East Canadian winter of reality is, they're literally the stupidest, most useless loser everybody else at work has ever known!!
Not only are these dunce caps intellectually vacuous, they have all the charisma and presence of a beer fart on an elevator at full legal weight and occupant capacity during a 24 hour power failure and historically record breaking heat wave!

Dubas was and remains way out of his league. I've been a huge NHL fan for over 50 years and in that entire span I cannot think of another GM who did the amount of long term damage Dubas managed to cause while actually thinking he was improving his team.
Dubas was a better than average (just) AHL G.M. The NHL was a step up that he simply didn't have the legs to reach! Shanahan is also culpable because, yes, he was inexperienced in his role at MLSE but you don't need to have a university degree to recognise when you're standing in a shit pool! He should never have pushed his close personal friend (at the time) for GM of the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS, I mean it's not as though there was a shortage of experienced GMs who didn't send their left testicle in along with their resumes!
Ownership should have shut that down immediately! Love the Leafs (Las God does) or hate them, as no one does (nuk nuk neyah) they are the wealthiest NHL team in the league and one of the original six, YOU DON'T HIRE NHL GM WANNABEES TO RUN THE MAPLE LEAFS!!!
Now I'll bring it back full circle – AS FREAKING REDONCULOUS AS IT WAS, Shanahan actually went to the owners to back his buddy (at the time) for an extension!!! AND THE OWNERS SAID YES!!! Let's all bow our heads for a moment of silent reflection….OK!
Dubas was as shocked as we were when we discovered that stupidity on a hot crossed bun!!
He was already colluding with Pittsburgh at the time, that much is blatantly obvious by the fact they announced Dubas as PRESIDENT & GM two weeks after he left the Leafs!!
So, Dubas is informed he has the owners blessing for the extension…after he changes his underwear, he gets straight on the blower to his agent and they orchestrate his own departure, AND HELLS YES, IT WAS ORCHESTRATED!!
After he gets the terrible news of an extension along with a substantial raise, I guess for maid services rendered because when he did leave the prospects and picks cupboards were sparkling clean…and empty.
His agent calls Shanny, because Dubas has no balls, he had already sent them both in to Pittsburgh along with his stellar resume.
His agent tells Shanahan, that his "nut free" client Dubas, has one more demand on top of the GM gig. Shanny says, we'll try to accommodate, what does he want? Nut Free Agent – "YOUR JOB"

So, Dubas, knowing there was literally NOTHING left he could squander to "improve" the team, and none of the players he got from selling the farm were going to stay because, OH YA, DUBAS ALSO CRIPPLED THE TEAM RAINING MLSE 50 GAL DRUMS OF CASH ALL OVER FOUR OFFENSIVE PLAYERS WHO CAN'T SCORE IN THE PLAYOFFS!! So, Dubas couldn't extend any of them even if he wanted too!
Dubas knew if he stayed in Toronto one more season, all the damage he did would come to a head and bury his chances of destroying another NHL team!
That's why he did the Leafs and his close personal friend Shanahan dirty and negotiated behind his employer's back, behind his close personal friend's back with the Pens when he did. If he waited and negotiated when he was no longer with the Leafs, his filthy heavily soiled dirt laundry would have been out and no team in the NHL would touch him, not even with John Bobbit's severed penis!
Treliving came in at a time when a picture of the full extend of the damage was still not complete and where Dubas saw no way out, no way around, no way to swing even a bad move Treliving managed to improve the defence, a feat that would have made Houdini jealous!
Treliving doesn't get the credit he so richly deserves because of? YES, WATER COOLER EXPERTS!

The ghost of Dubas lingers. Treliving has done an absolutely awesome job and has improved this team at every position and has managed to do this while being haunted and being prospect and pick poor!!

You can bet a million dollars that the Leafs won't make any significant deals; Knies is untouchable. However, with Shanahan and Tree at the helm—both cowardly, inflexible, and lacking intelligence—they are incapable of executing any meaningful trades. Their only strategy seems to be acquiring aging, small, low-scoring third-line forwards and sixth defensemen. Shame on them. Shanahan should be fired.
