Great observations. I am also torn between Philly and Pittsburgh in the second spot. The Pens are still in this grey area with trying to keep their core of Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Karlsson, Rust, and Hayes while building for the future. Philly has shedded a lot of their old core with the exception of Couturier and has some promising youth with Brink, Tippett, Luchanko, Foerster, Cates, Michkov. Philly has a lot more draft capital in the earlier rounds but their scouts need to make some of these draft picks count. They have been drafting too many fringe 2nd/3rd line players and need to hunt for pure goal scorers whereas the Penguins have drafted really well. The Flyers have a headstart on this rebuild for now and Briere did the team a huge favor shedding a lot of salary. I would not be surpised if he lands an elite UFA forward this offseason too.
