The Leafs aren’t good enough to be a cup contender and they aren’t going to win the Atlantic division this year. If the Leafs can’t beat these top tier teams, it’ll be another first round exit for them.

Fairly close game that was decided by special teams, Leafs took a lot of stupid penalties and it burned em while also getting nothing done on the PP.

Sloppy in the D. Allowing the panthers to sneak behind too many times. Failing to clear net front. Lapses on the check.
The leafs use up too much energy too quick. They need to learn to play smarter and not harder. To reserve energy for when they get chances, rather than doing extra "fancy" moves.
That lesson right I think is what the Panthers coach has instilled into their team, and is part of their identity which causes them to be such a force to be reckon with.
On paper the leafs have a stanley cup champion team, once they grow out of their bad habits and unite with the best interest of the team in mind, they are unstoppable.
Leafs are in a state of purgatory, not good enough to win it all, not bad enough to rebuild. Huge unmovable contracts and a sense we’ll forever be relegated to early playoff exits.
