You're like a magician, summoning art and inspiration in every frame. Keep creating magic in the world of content!😉😉 6 🧉,
Thanks for the video! Great info, details, and insights! Retool? Rebuild? They don't "Re-" They need a more steady run to get above a B or a second Cup.
What's up with all the bot comments? Great video though, your work is insightful and inspiring, you always add sunshine to my day 🐭😺👾
So who is 30th?
As a Canes fan, I don’t think this year’s squad has the potential to win. But 2026-2029 has me super excited. Morrow and Nikishin should be stars in the league, Kochetkov will have more reps, and we have 30 million in cap space this summer to make some big splashes.
Tulsky needed to get something for Necas and Drury as they were not likely to re-sign with the Canesn going forward. Maybe he knew he could flip Mikko at the deadline if things didn't work out. So we ended up with a couple of good players and some picks which is probably just fine. Certainly not as good as getting Mikko on-board but it sounds like that was never going to happen.
They’ve been a solid franchise and had good success in their 29 years of existence (Whalers era notwithstanding). Especially considering Raleigh is not a major city (or even in a hockey playing region of the country) even less so back in ‘97.
I am one of the guys that have felt like them gluing themselves to the boards in the modern game of hockey does not pay dividends for scoring. It's normal for the system and it does work and is fantastic with the lead, but it isn't something I would think will consistently set up grade A chances otherwise more teams would focus on it.
I grew up and began hockey watching this team for almost 17 years or more. I have gone to many great games as well. I started to notice this kind of issue because of all of the points shots.
I leave the fanboying at the door, for when I'm pulling for them but to say I am completely pleased would be ridiculous, their pp is less likely to score than their pk, this wasn't the first time I noticed it statistically. I would really like to see an offensive coordinator brought in, even if we keep Rod. Our PP and 5on5 are borderline NHL. When you draw players out of position attack the slot in unison. Seems that even some of the fundamentals get by them on PPs and 5on5. I get that they want standing one timers but those will come naturally the more weapons you present.
Just relocate them already to Houston. On-ice they are great, but off-ice they don't move the needle at all as evidenced by their low net worth. Raleigh just doesn't cut it, and they do nothing to expand their influence in Charlotte.
Goalie power rankings when
Been going to Hurricanes games since I was a kid since I’m an NC native, but I’ve started following them a lot more religiously during the Rod era when they’ve been more consistently contending.
I love this team more than anything, but can’t wait to see them take the next steps over the next few years. We need to get a powerplay coach and a big name with all our cap space this summer then I think we’ll be set. Looking forward to the future 🙂 LGC
Also, as a fan I really hope the Hurricanes rebrand soon. Our look is fairly mid (especially the current away jerseys, the one you’re wearing in the video was so much better)
This year has been a roller coaster ride for us Canes fans. As you mentioned, they are either doing great or are struggling endlessly, there doesn't seem to be too much in the middle. The big trades recently has certainly added to this, but honestly I wouldn't want it any other way! I never know what to expect, but I love this squad and definitely see the potential for a good run this year and in the future. I have lived in Raleigh for 20+ years and I can tell you this is DEFINITELY a hockey town, despite what others might say! This town LOVES this team and supports them unconditionally! Let's Go Canes!! 🏒❤🖤🌀
As you said, post TD: Canes could be a dark horse in the playoffs. With an (arguably) easier finish to the season, should give the new guys a chance to buy into the system and be ready for the playoffs.
As for winning it all: it is hard to say, because likely getting the Caps in the finals then potentially one of 3 teams looking really good in the west. It will be exciting hockey to watch either way.
As a Caniac in the Triangle, it is DEFINITELY a 'hockey town'! I am really looking forward to the next few years- we have a nice group of younger guys who will only get better with time and a few older mentors bringing them along. The 'now' is going good and the future is bright! Love your videos, THG!
id like to seee the canes get to the finals again, but i dont think they can beat florida or tampa. however thry should be a contener for the foreseeable future
Love me some solo THG Carolina videos 😊
It’s just so nice to know that my formative years watching horrible Hurricanes teams were worth the wait. Having good hockey teams play in Raleigh is still exciting and I hope other fans here don’t take it for granted
The Rantanen thing was a mess but I still believe in Tulsky. Every move he's made has helped the team, bringing in guys like Roslovic and Robinson have been under the radar impact moves. And, he turned chicken shit into chicken salad by getting stanky and two firsts from Dallas. Let the man cook and we'll be hoisting Lord Stanley's cup in the near future.
Canes have to figure out their PP if they want to go far in playoffs. So far in 2025 (I think) they have more SHG's than PPG's, which is insane
Where’s my caps video?
They still overpaid Svech, Kk and Aho (when signing the contract)
I'm surprised you didn't talk about ownership and how much that changed over a quarter of a century.
The Overview videos should have also had Future Hall of Famers list so Jaccob Slavin could get a mention here!
There's a solid interview Tulsky did about the Rantanen trade where he legitimately admitted he wasn't sure they would be able to resign him, but he says that a player like that is essentially never available via trade and he felt like he had to take a shot and made sure to do so with enough time to have options if the extension couldn't be done. Could be some spin to that narrative, but if true, I love the mentality.
I have always been a Freddy fan and would be happy to see him win a Cup
Brindy is a very good coach – he consistently gets them into the playoffs. BUT he's not good enough to win the cup. Why you ask? Answer…. THE SYSTEM He's really good at running system that doesn't depend on top end elite talent to compete. At the same time it leaves no room for those types of players to excel. This is a HUGE issue for them to the win the cup. The team has hit the ceiling with the system and it simply ain't good enough to win it all. It's not a bad system but is simply not effective enough to consistently beat the top 25% of the league come playoff time when the are fully prepared and bring their A game
Perhaps elite goal tending can make possible but with this system and this coaching staff the skaters will not be able to win the cup no matter how hard they play. Maybe Nikishin is that guy? We will see…
The real answer lies in moving offensive assistant coach Daniels to another role in the organization and bringing in a new truly offensive mind (vice 2-way minded coach – which Brindy already is in spades) to bring fresh ideas to this team's well understood and worn out offensive attack which relays on capitalizing on the opponent making mistakes to score rather than purely manufacturing goals consistently.
I hate saying it has a huge fan of both Brindy and the organization. But it needs to be discussed in and around the organization. The teams local media surrounding the organization already understands this but don't dare talk about for fear of losing access to the team in my view.
Hopefully this problem can get resolved without canning Brindy down the road. He himself would do himself a favor by admitting the truth to himself and taking action himself while he currently has complete and full support of team management and ownership… It's gonna get harder as time progresses.
This also explains why the Rat didn't work out here.
Guetzel was the better guy for this team because he was a much more flexible and more unique talent. He was a great fit and they blew it not doing whatever painful things needed to be done to come up with the cash to get him signed last year (should have traded some bodies). He was one of few players I could see being able to intentionally create goals with this system and actually proved it
I miss going to Canes games on a whim for $5-$15 in the dark ages. We were like the Mississippi Mud Dogs before Bobby Boucher. 🤣🤣 These days I can't even afford the cheapest seat. ☹☹ Still watch almost every game on TV though and LOVE watching them win!!!
7:10 Eric Staal in management? No way. Cringe. I literally just shuddered. Edit: he also doesn't even live in the area and I doubt he wants to come back for any extended period of time even though Jordo is here.
Why do our GMs hate goalies so much 😂
