For the second straight season, before it began, I decided to follow only one of the Detroit sports teams, the Pistons or the Wings. Even with only winning 14 games last season, I had more confidence in the Pistons than the Wings. I get my hockey fix watching the Panthers and the Lightning. I have no confidence in Yzerman. None.

Barring an extended win streak we are done this year… I'm hoping for an ASP look though. Hopefully Yzerman makes some positive additions this off-season with no major contracts to consider other than Kane.

Difference maker for 2nd wild card is who is the better loser. I don't see any team in that race gets over 41 wins so whoever can snag the most loser points is getting in.

The schedule is most likely too tough to land the Wings in a playoff spot. Even when they've very good games it doesn't seem to result in a win. Maybe next year.
Your thoughts, your feelings, are valid. Personally, I didn't see us as a playoff team this year anyway, so missing wouldn't surprise me or upset me. But it's also disappointing to see the hostility in the fanbase between those who do and don't trust Yzerman at this point. Pro scouting is a problem, so I hope the organization addresses that much at least… but I think we have some amazing kids on the way, and it's not even close.
Petry and Lagesson will be gone after this season. I would try to get ASP, Wallinder, and Buium to be fighting for those two or three spots (if they can move Holl). I would bet on upside vs. known mediocre to bad vets. One of Smith or Motte won’t come back in my opinion. I would put Danielson or Lombardi rotated. I would lean towards Danielson start and Lombardi as a call up. Get younger and faster and hungrier.

I'm already looking at the Wings off-season. Their defense needs a serious upgrade and they need aty least another scoring forward and physical toughness. The goalie situation remains a big question mark. The Islanders beat the Canadians in OT and the Rangers lost but none of it matters if the Wi9ngs don't win win & win. What's the chance of that happening? Not too good. Thank you guys.

I’m afraid the Wings need to plan for next season so they are more competitive and that red wings loss though not out mathematically it shows they don’t have what it takes yet to competitive with a better teams in the league.
You guys sometimes, I swear. Scotty needs to lay off the hyperbole when he talks about other people's ideas. Who says Cossa will be the savior next season? Who is saying a good third pair is what we need to make the playoffs? You guys could do with a little more nuance, like when you criticize goaltending automatically if the Wings allow 3 or more goals.
And I'm with you, I don't think the Wings can pull this off. But be doom and gloom about specific things, like defensive zone structure or bad special teams or a player who isn't contributing. Don't just look at 14 games and go "we'll lose most of those". Ottawa, Utah, Boston, St. Louis, and Montreal are all very winnable. We've beaten Toronto, Tampa, and New Jersey multiple times in recent seasons. This year's team has beaten some top teams. I'm at 1% hope, but any hope is enough.
There have to be more goalies they can sign. You should be able to find a decent one once every five years.

This team is done, there’s no way this team makes the playoffs.. I personally don’t mind how long it’s taken for Yzerman to build a team but I can see why other people bitch about it… this team just isn’t physically or mentally tough enough to compete with the big dogs.. hopefully Yzerman can add toughness and an actual superstar to the roster next season and if not we will be set for another year of mediocrity.

This has been a rough year for Wings. They will not reach last years heights. And the young guys this year will probably go thru the sophomore jinx next year, happened to Raymond. '26-'27 will be playoff year where the Wings will have a chance to move on. Who should go? My list: Petrey, Holl, Gus, Vlad, Smith, Motte, Berggren, Lyon.
Its obvious they will ride mrazek until the end unless a back to back they put in talbot and lyon would be my guess
