Ovechkin the only player in the top 50 all time points leaders with more goals than assists. He never back checks and is a complete cherry picker. Had Mario Lemieux played as many games, no way OV would be tops. And, Gretzky just did it all.

I would say they are equally as good for goal scoring for their times but overall Gretzky is better recording a total of 2857 points while ovi has only 1481 points throughout their careers with basically the same amount of games played. But if Gretzky played in the nhl now Ovi would definitely be better considering how much faster the game is now compared to tgen
In today’s game Gretzky would be at best a 3rd line center at 50-60 points a year. Played in horribly skilled era and as a result stacked bs points. Don’t believe me? Watch his highlights and how pitiful the goalies were

It’s tough to say, Gretzky was a center who made players around him into superstars, probably preferred setting up a goal than scoring it…ov is different 1st he’s a winger, not much of a defensive player and scored a lot of goals like Brett hull did from that 1 spot…it really doesn’t matter ov will break Gretzky’s record and he will be the greatest goal scorer…he deserves it…plus I love how ov celebrates, but overall ov doesn’t compare to Gretzky as a complete player, he would never be mentioned really.
